1921-23 Huson Super 6 Registry Help Wanted!
In December I volunteered for, and was made the manager of the new 1921-23 Hudson Super 6 Registry for the HET Club. This change transpired too close to the printing deadline to be included in the Jan/Feb '09 issue of the WTN, but have been told it will make it into the next issue.
This Registry is designed to be a very valuable resource for the owners of 1921-23 Hudson Super 6's. Membership in the HET Club is not required to have a car included in the listing, and I plan on making the Registry available to everyone who participates in the project. The main goal is to try to locate as many surviving examples of these great old cars as possible world wide. This Registry can also be used as a great tool for the owners of these cars to assist them in contacting other owners for help with technical advice, parts, and other information to aid in the preservation, or restoration of their car.
When I took on this project in December, the only cars that the Club had any information on were from the current membership renewals which totals 7 cars world wide. I am hoping that there are many more that have survived than that. So as you can see I have my work cut out for me.
I will greatly appreciate any help you could give to aid in building, and updating this registry. Please contact me if you own one of these unique cars, know someone who does, or know of one that is on display at a museum somewhere. Please send me an email at HETvoyageur@watchtv.net (Drop HET from address) I will reply with a list of the information that I would like to include in the registry for that vehicle.
Many thanks.

Just wanted to bump this back up top. Would still appreciate any, and all assistance.0

A modest proposal: delegate 3 or 4 of the most gung-ho Essex Four owners, as your "deputies", and ask them to keep an eye out for all the Essex Four's they see or hear of. This is how (I think) some of our more successful Registry Keepers are so successful. (Charlie Woodruff has something like 700 cars on his 1951 Registry; Robbie Williams has over 400 on his 1937 Registry). Like tentacles, these motivated owners will extend your abilities and pull in all sorts of cars you'd normally miss.
It's one thing to simply put out a blanket appeal to everyone, to send you material. But when you actually grab someone by the shoulders and ask him / her to be your helper, this is a great motivational tool!0 -
Hi Jon,
Thank you for your suggestion. You, and I are on the same wavelength here. This is by no means the only method that I am using to get current information for the Registries I am working on.
My intention for this posting, and the one for the SX4 Regstry is that this Forum seemed to provided a great way to get the word out to a large number of Hudson people about these projects. I know there are quite a few visitors to this page who may own one of these cars. though they may not be current members of the HET Club, or may not know of the HET Club. In fact I found & purchased my Essex 4 through a posting on this Forum from one such person. It is with the same thought that I have also placed the same postings in both the Yahoo Essex Group, & Early Super 6 Group.
I received an email shortly after taking on these projects from the Club Secretary that they do have a Registry File dedicated for cars owned by non-members, and encourage us to help compile information on all Hudson products regardless of membership status. I feel that this is a great way to help contact owners that may not be aware of the Club, and get them interested in joining. Just last week I made contact with an SX4 owner from the Yahoo Essex Group that did not know about our Club, and is very interested in learning more. I sent his mailing address to Sam Jackson, so he will be receiving a complimentary WTN, and membership packet in the mail this week.
For the last month I have also been scouring the Club membership rosters from 1999 to the current issue to make a list of owners of these cars. Am now beginning to contact them via email, letters, or phone to try to learn the current status of these vehicles, update & add information, or if sold try to get contact information of the current owner.
With every email, and letter I am asking that if that person knows of any other owners, or knows of any cars on display in any museums to send me any contact info they may have, so that I may try to include them in the Registries as well. This has proven a success so far, as have received several leads in this way.
I would also like to contact the editors of any other car clubs that feature early cars of this vintage, so that they might include my letter describing this Registry project in their publication. Again to cast a wide net to owners that are not in the HET Club. With the kind assistance of David Young I have been able to do this with the NZ HET Club, as well as the Hudson-AMC Club of Australia thanks to Tony Atkinson.
Two good SX4 friends in Australia (who incidentally are not current HET members) are John Meadows, and Jim Scammell, and are helping me to get contact information on quite a few cars in that country. When I started we only had info on 1 SX4 in all of Australia. Thanks to John, and Jim, am working to confirm over 20!!
I'm always looking for more ideas for ways to locate these cars, and make these Registries a useful asset to everyone.0
