    Top of my head:

    1. Bad battery

    2. Bad voltage regulator

    3. Bad ground or battery cable connections (that's the cheapest to remedy!)
  • Hi Hudson Dave here . I am not an expert but it sounds like the brushes in the generator could be worn down . It charges at an idle but when you speed it up the brushes don't hit the armature properly = DISCHARGE  I would take a look at that first :) Then the Regulator . Hope this helps Hudson Dave:)
  • thanks guys..some of the people at work also thought it maybe the voltage regulator. so i will definately check it and all the other obvious stuff too.

    thanks lisa g.

Lisa, please remember that it's normal for the GEN light to glow slightly when you have a pretty good load on the generator, as at night with the headlights on. The glow will increase in brightness with more load on the generator. When you say the car wouldn't start, do you mean it wouldn't turn over with the starter, or it turned over but wouldn't start?
  • ok, so the AMP light will glow slightly with the lights on at night..good to know Park.

I'll write this while I am not in a hurry this time. this maybe a bit long so bear with me!

Ok, I started driving my car at night and did notice that the Amp light was glowing while i would accelerate and go out when the car was idle..i told dad about it and he didn't seem worried about it. I left the car at my parents house over the weekend we had our little blizzard. I got the car yesterday and it started fine the Amp light did come on some when I would rev the engine. on the drive home it did good but a couple blocks from home i had to stop for a turn and when i started going again i accedentally killed it(still learning stick ). i tried to resart it but it would only turn over but not start..after a few times i stopped trying to start it..it kept getting more tired sounding, pushed the car home with help. today I tried starting it ,it did start once but then died i cranked it again but it wouldn't catch, i put the battery charger on it afer that. so we will see what tommorrw brings...thanks Lisa g
  • Lisa, my Jet does the same thing with the amp light, the more load you put on the more it glows, but my battery seems to charge ok. I am considering going to 12 volt on mine, simply because mine is more of a driver than a show car.
