Hudson Hornet Specs

Hi,

I've searched the internet, without a whole lot of success, for specifications for the Hudson Hornets of NASCAR fame. I Believe it's 1948-1954.

I am looking for wheelbase, track, overall length, width and height. I am a modeler and wish to reproduce the car to the correct scale dimensions.

Naturally it's the 2 door model I would need since it was the car raced in NASCAR.

Your help is appreciated.

The specs area of Ken's site seems to have been shut down. If you've not been able to find them there:

    wheelbase 124"

    overall lenth 208"

    overall width 77.6"

    overall height 60.4"

    front tread 58.5"

    rear tread 55.5"

the Hornet model was made starting in 1951. However it does share dimentions with some of the senior model Hudson's starting from 1948 (124" wb)

Thanks! This is what I need. And these are accurate for the 2 door models?

I'll check them out. Do you know the scale? My guess would be 1/25 scale. I'm trying to fashion a 1/32 scale slot car, my winter passion.

Here's my summer passion. :) Not a Hudson but cool none the less!

Nice Chevy, Ray. I had a 40,000 mile maroon 2-door back in '54 (a little break in my string of Hudsons back then). Great car.

The dimensions I showed are for the coupe. Any difference in the sedans would only be in the height. The Highway 61 models are 1/18.

The Highway 61 Hudson models are 1/18 scale.
  • The Disney store has a Doc Hudson Plastic toy model which might be close to 1/32 scale (about 6" long). That way, you could just paint it with the Nascar graphics

Dave, I have the Doc Hudson toy and it is the model I hope to modify closer to 1/32 scale. It is a bit larger than 1/32 but I've had success lowering and narrowing other toys. It will be a challenge but hopefully I'll be able to get good results. Thus my desire for the dimensions. It's the grill area that looks like the biggest challenge to narrow. If I get good results, I'll have resin cast duplicates made.

    Thanks for your reply.

The Disney Toys are replicas of the DOC Hudson produced by Gunnar Racing for the Pixar movie. While the replica body for DOC hudson assumes the shape and looks like a Hudson coupe it is indeed an exaggeration of the body. The Grill was specifically tailored to an oversized rendition as is the body. Google; Gunnar Racing and if still there, a link to a pictoral story describing the process used to create the Doc Hudson body and vehicle (sic fiberglass body on a NASCAR TRUCK Chassis) will help explain the process used.

Good Luck with your model, in my past I made models of orphan cars from balsa covered with reisn or auto body filler. U gotta Love it to do it!
  • I have a HO scale '51 Hornet coupe made by Classic Metal Works.
Also have the Z scale of the 51 coupe from the same manufacturer. They are now out of production although they do sometimes show up on E-Bay. I contacted them once about the possibility of them making a 1:43 scale but they said there were no plans to produce any more Hudsons of any size.
