Shifter sleeve end play.
I am currently checking the transmission in my '53 Hornet, which occasionally jumps out of 2nd gear. This is a r.h.d. model, which still has the single lever box. There is about 1/4" fore-and-aft movement between the sleeve groove and the 2nd-top shifter fork. Is this normal? There does not appear to be any signs of wear on the groove or the fork. I want to fix it while I have the transmission out, as it is a mammoth task getting it out and back in. Any help much appreciated.
