I believe it's located on the driver's side (in America!), top of the block (just below the head), almost right under the temp sending unit.

1937 Hudson engine number blocks ran from 90,000 to 97,082 (6 cyl.) and 250,000 to 351,877 for Terraplanes.

Of course they didn't use all those numbers.

  • Thanks Jon and Alex. So with chassis #713185 and engine #254571 does that tell me anything other than both are '37 ? Numbers did'nt match in "37 ? Did they use both 1 and 2 barrel carbs in "37 ? Mine is a single barrel . Bud

Your chassis number starting with '71' confirms that indeed you have a model 71, the Terraplane with only a one barrel carb (and manual choke). The 2-barrel was used by the model 72. By fitting a model 72 intake manifold to your car, you could upgrade to the 2-barrel if you so desired. The 2-barrel comes with an automatic choke.

Alex Burr's Hudson Handbook indicates that the starting engine number for 1937 was 250000 so yours would indeed be a 1937 engine. The motor and body numbers were not matching in that year.
