Wing less

Lost one of the wings off my 37 hood ornament. I looked on K-Gap's web page, but didn't see them listed. Anyone know if they are being reproducted?

At one time, K-Gap sold both the cigar and the wings.

    I made all three of them myself, 30 years ago, out of brass. Simply band-sawed the basic shape out of a brass bar, then traced the "speedlines" on the sides and got busy with a hand file. When I was finished I drilled holes in the bottom and inserted welded rod as my mounting studs, polished the thing up on a buffing wheel with some polishing rouge, and had it chrome plated. I think I used super glue or maybe clear silicone sealant when I inserted the studs in the holes in the 'red cigar'.



    Voila!



    It's held up okay for three decades and doesn't look too bad from 50 feet away.

    speaking of SUPER GLUES--not a big fan of that stuff but sometimes there's no choice---I recently had a very difficult repair to make and used some SUREHOLD PLASTIC SURGERY from the hardware for it. experimented with wood/plastic/metal--I Could break the stock but not the glue joint on any of them---BUD

    Previous threads have mentioned a company making complete hood ornaments. Perhaps they would sell you just the missing parts. Try

    Something else to keep in mind, that very porous materials do not work very well with normal super glue because the glue is absorbed before it gets a chance to bond. Additionally when gluing one item that is very porous to a very dense, brittle material, the porous substance stands no chance for a good bond. However, in those circumstances, Super Glue GEL is an ideal bonding material and won't "soak in" before adhesion occurs.



    Another neat tip with super glue, is when you need instant ( and I mean instant on contact), apply super glue to one surface and household baking soda to the other surface. When contacted together, PRESTO! Instant and permanent bondage.
