Trixxy the Wonder Hudson

I only got one, but the one I saw was a beauty, looking good.0

This should be better,0

Yes it is a heavly modified Clifford head and intake along with a Paxton/Novi 1200 Super Charger still breathing through the Twin H Aircleaners. The engine info for the rebuild is attached. You will notice that it now makes 8.5 to one compression with 10 lbs of boost.0

SAWEEET! I WANT ONE!!
Very very nice work.
Thanks for the pics.

Thanks I look forward to meeting you at one on the shows unless you will be in the Las Vegas area before.0

I have not broke in the motor enough to fell comftable with a Dyno Run, we have about 6-9 bike a week dyno tuned and it really put a load on them.0

Laughlin this fall....0 -
That's a jaw dropping engine. Certainly for me it is.
I hope you can dyno it and see what it makes. I'm really interested in the vacuum advance unit your engine seems to have. I may be seeing things, but it looks to be built to work with your supercharger and perhaps retard the distributor at boost.
My own little pet project involves a McCulloch centrifugal supercharger.0 -
I would like to se pic's of your engine. The vacum advance has been disabled and I am running an MSD Super Charger 0-1-2-3 degree retard unit that comes on as boost is applied. Did you intercool your charge or is it direct into the carb?0
-
I haven't gone beyond the mock up and theoreticals of my setup just yet. The complications arise when you consider I'm limiting myself to the old-school stuff. The supercharger will remain variable sheave, using the mechanical fuel pump with boost piped in above the diaphragm to raise fuel pressure, and I haven't exactly figured out how to manage the timing - hence my question.
I do have the engine I'm going to install the McCulloch on running and in a vehicle, but trying to map out the fuel curves prior to supercharging it. It took me forever to find the right carb for my purpose, 1958 vintage Carter AFB - casting# 2641S.
I do not intend to intercool mine, as I'll only be running 4.0psi at max boost. However, I will be able to use that boost at any rpm if the vacuum drops below a certain threshold and activates the sheaves.
Call me quirky, but I drew the technological line on my project at 1965.
So, I don't have a picture of the setup - but I do have a picture of the candidate. Not much to compare with your Hudson.0 -
Mark is that a jar of moonshine on top that you are sipping from while doing your work? LOL0
-
I bought a Studebaker Avanti that was blown in a similair manner and it worked great but was hard on the rings. I do agree with 51Hornet A as the moonshine does look like it will work on both engines the one for the car and the one for the driver. Might I suggest a Demon 575 blow through from Barry Grant as it will set you back $650.00 but fix all of your pressure issues. I would like to report that Trixxy took me for a ride today and only had one small set back, a small weap from the front main seal so I called the men @ 21st Century Hudson and they sent me an update kit to remedy the issue. Make sure you get more picks on line so we can all see.0

Moonshine?
Uh, well, that's biofuel!
I'm sticking with the little AFB. Its not a maxed out motor by any means. Just a good solid stock'ish engine running 8.2 compression. We had it making 22 mpg with the 500 Edelbrock, but have shortened the rev time considerably with the smaller AFB. I'm shooting for a mannerly driver with just enough McCulloch to put me on par (or slightly above) 80% of the vehicles on the road. I don't think it would be much of a match for Trixxy!
I have a whole section in the picture gallery here on Classicar, Bill.
If my economics had been better the past few years - I would have finished some of my other projects. As it is, I'm slowly walking my way through this one as I can. Learning as I go so maybe my other projects can benefit later.
In the meantime, I'm perfectly content being inspired by your engine!

Wow your pictures l:ok great it is as I remebered with the Avanti but much cooler because it is a Hudson. Biofuel? Whats the octane and I do not think we can get the stuff here in Las Vegas the city of lost wages. What type of transmission are you using? I currently still have the Dual Range Hydro unit I freshend up. Have you or do you know of anyone who has upgraded to a 700R4 or better?
Thanks Bill0 -
There are several folks on here acquainted with the 700R4 and 200R4, I am unfortunately not, yet. I wouldn't think your Hydramatic would fail, those are probably the toughest automatic transmissions ever made. The only thing they'd be short on is stall speed. You just can't buy a torque convereter (or Torus for the Hydro) in whatever rpm stall you'd want.
I am hesitant to comment on transmissions, because I've pretty much destroyed two single lever 3 speeds - not even trying to. The single levers do not have heat treated input shafts and I'm twisting them in the splines. When thinking of my Ol' School philosophy, transmissions may be the weak link behind these torque monsters. The cork clutches are certainly no weak link! (if in good shape).
If you have transmission trouble, many here are very exeperianced on about any combination you can imagine. Just post a question and the experts will chime in. Good bunch of folks here, which is one of the reasons I'm a Hudnut.

Hi Bill, you can contact Dany Spring about the 700R4. He put a 700R4 in his wife's Hudson and I believe he put one in his Hudson race car. Dany makes and sells the adapter to mate the 700R4 to the Hudson engine. Dany's Email: kgaphet@aol.com0 -
Thanks for the info as I think the 700R4 is the same bolt pattern as the Alison I am looking at. The tourque load may be to great for a standard trans, even a modern one because as it is just slight pedal pressure starts the rear tire spinning. I will shoot a video next week of a drive along in the car at speed and see how she does.0

Bill go will Wilcap industries. They have the nice setup. Kit includes midplate and flywheel and uses a high torgue chysler starter. Dad has this set up on his racecar0
