Nice looking car, Joe. If you haven't done so already, you should list this in the Hudson club newsletter. Maybe you're already in the Club but if not, I can help you list it for free. There are a lot of viewers of the Forum, but 3500 viewers of the magazine.

  • Hey Joe!

How does the car run? Does it need anything?

Geez! Haven't seen or heard from you since Madison. How are you doing?

Hi been awhile! The car has been sitting for about 3 years. Before I parked it I started having trouble with it back firing and would quit running, after it warmed up. First I thought it was vapor locking and tried a new and larger heat shied and re routing the gas line. When this didn’t work I noticed grit in the carburetor. I dropped the tank only to find out it was spotless and a brass tag on the top for Gas Tank Renu . I had the carburetor rebuilt and changed the fuel line, but still had the same trouble. I then parked it due to building a new house, thinking I would get back to it the following summer, then last year I was in and out of the hospital most of the summer and winter.

This year I finally found the trouble. The fuel pump rubber could not take the new gas and was dissolving into a rubbery grit which gummed up the carb again. I put on an electric fuel pump and a line filter, and had the carb rebuilt again. I also had to get the vacuum advance rebuilt by Daytona Carb. I’ve had it out most of the spring and it’s been running fine. It has been running hotter then it used to lately with the warmer weather, the gage goes between ½ and ¾. It should have the radiator flushed or re-cored. .Also it could use new exhaust from all the back firing, the muffler is now shapped like a football lol!

The NADA Guides book price for a 40 Super Six 4 dr touring sedan is 7,675 for low retail. I figure at 5,750 a person would have almost 2 grand to put into it. I'm going to put an ad in the WTN or list it on ebay. Haven't decided which way to go yet.

I'm getting to old and don't have the stamina to work on cars anymore!!

Are you going to the National this year if so I’ll see you there?

If Joe's car isn't worth more than $5,800 I might as well go and push my '40 off a cliff...
  • Great looking car to say the least !! wish I was closer , Id love to own it !!
  • Sorry Sam

I didn't mean to lower the property values on the block!!! Like I said to Kevin I don't have the stamina to keep up 2 cars anymore! I'm keeping my 53 Hornet Club Coupe. Although my wife has told a friend of mine that if I go, he can have the 53 for 50 bucks!!!!!! Some friend lol.

Besides my son is looking to buy a house and will need help with the down payment. I'm selling just about everything I don't need anymore! LOL

I believe it's sold to a fellow out your way, San Jose, I'll have him contact you if he needs any help or info. He's checking on having it shipped from OH to CA. Anyone heading out west from the National with an empty trailer let me know and I'll pass it on to him. It's about a 3 1/2 hour drive to my house from the National.

I still love the lines of the 1940 Hudson. I think it's the cleanest styling of any of the forties fat fender Hudsons. I don't mean to offend anyone here, just my own preference.

I'll see you at the National.

    Joe

P.S. Don't push you 40 off a cliff !!! Hudson's are meant to drive LOL
