Door liner

I had to remove the door upholstery on my '53 Hornet and found that the paper liner behind the upholstery is in bad shape. What can be used to replace this paper liner.
Thanks

Ed, there are a host of products, and suppliers for that stuff. Cheap and easy would be rubberized undercoating. The matting type is more expensive, but also helps to insulate and deaden sound. I haul railroad containers, and one day I delivered a load of Bourbon to a distributor. The bottles had a wax seal, over the cap, and to keep the sun's heat from melting the wax, they put a solid sheet of the double backed foil insulation, with the air pockets between the layers of foil. Picture one solid piece, 40ft X 8ft. I asked the distributor what he was going to do with it, and he replied,"Throw it in the trash." Needless to say it went home with me. If I was to order that much, it would have cost between $1500 and $2000. I'll be lining, the entire inside of the car with what I have, plus both sides of the firewall. Just get a material that doesn't hold moisture.

I've got some stuff called "Tri-Ply" that's used as a moisture barrier between sheet metal roofing and the rafters you're nailing the roofing too. Its white plastic on both sides, with a little black asphalt material between, with cross-hatched fiberglass strands imbedded in the middle, so it will keep its shape. The nice thing about it is, it will be about the same thickness as what you are replacing. It's completely impervious to moisture. I know the material you are talking about, and this will work better. I have what's left of a roll after building (I hope) my last barn. With a little luck, all my wife's horses will die before I do, so I can enjoy a few months of freedom before my passing.
If you get me your mailing address, I can send you a piece of the stuff, so you can decide if you want it.
Measure each of your doors (leave a little extra, for trimming), and send me the measurements. I'll cut out a piece from which you can make the pieces you need, and ship it to you for 20 bucks plus the cost of shipping.
You can PM me on this board, or email me at the address below- if you want to take me up on it, be sure to include your mailing address in the email. I'll trust you to send me the money after I send you the stuff.

Good Morning Mike,
I've already installed headliner and before doing used installation, however for my doors, firewall, rear section and possibly floors I'd be interested to learn where I can purchase "Tri-Ply"? Had a 11 hour day on car yesterday (three hours of RT driving) and it's coming together real well, I'll post some pictures and my comments on FORUM today.
Happy Fatehr's Day
Thanks,

I think it would work real well as moisture barrier behind door panels, but you would probably be happier with the stick-on insulation/ sound deadener for floors and firewall. I can send you some, too, if you let me know how much you want. As well as anyone else who wants some.
I don't think you'd want to buy it commercially- comes in big rolls.
Glad the car is coming along well- I enjoy seeing the pics.

This supplier has many types of fabric barrier - maybe something like this is what Mike was using?
