My power brake quest continues
I have been trying to find a set of brackets to mount the '54 treadle vac booster to the firewall of my '54 Hornet coupe. I understand that folks do not want to part with these as they are very rare (1 year option only). Would someone loan me a set so that I could have a set fabricated. I promise to return them. I will even pay a "rental" fee of $25 plus, of course shipping costs. 'Hope someone can help. Thanks.

I took this picture of the bracket on my 54 a few years ago. The car has been repainted and all put back together, so I can't send the bracket to you.
The bracket is pretty simple. It stands out from the firewall 3 1/4 inches, and needs to be wide enough in the back to line up with the bolt holes in the firewall, and also needs to be wide enough in the front to line up with the bolt holes in the Treadle Vac unit. As you can see in the picture the top bracket is "S" shaped and the bottom bracket is "U" shaped. Don't get them mixed up!
Hope this helps

Ok, I got back home and took some pictures for you, and I have another bit of information to add. Take a look at the pictures and read.
The top picture shows the two support rods that go through the firewall. One is attached to the bottom edge of the dash and the other one is attached to the steering column support . The top rod goes from the dash through the brake pedal support bracket, and comes out above the booster brackets on the firewall.
If you look at the picture on my previous post, it shows the nut at the end threaded rod sticking out above the booster bracket.
The rod that is attached to the steering column support goes through the brake pedal support bracket and then through the booster bracket.
This means that the top booster bracket is held by two nuts and bolts that go through the pedal bracket, and the bottom booster bracket is held on by a threaded rod and a nut and bolt that go through the pedal bracket.
Clear as mud huh!
Let me know if you got it figured out from the pictures.0 -
Thanks for the photos onerare39. I bought a 54 pendulum pedal from Jim Guinn a while ago which I want to fit to my 53.
It is possible to figure out from the parts where everything is supposed to mount, but having the photos provides a degree of reassurance.0 -
Thanks again! What a contraption! You can tell that this was not a longterm solution, the end was truely near.0
