Paint codes

Does anyone out there know a modern paint code for the '53 Hornet air cleaners? Is there a Ditzler, or Dupont, or General Paint, or some other maker that has a shade very close to the original red?

  • I am in the process of searching too; I have selected Duplicolor's
Chrysler Industrial Red to paint my engine and breather's.
Available at Auto Zone. Not saying it's exactly the original color
but from the ones I've seen, plus comparing said color to my
1954 Hudson sales brochure (and shades vary even within the
same brochure), I've concluded this will be close enough for me. crazy.gif
  • Thanks 54 HSWH ! I'll check that out and add it to my list of likely very close at least possibles. I have three or four set of air cleaners around here, and they're all a little different fom each other, probably due to weathering, aging, temperatures over time, etc. Maybe I'll just take an average and go with that! smirk.gif
  • I and Danny Barrier have started using the old Krylon
    # 2114 (Buick Red) for the engines and air breathers.

If you call Danny at 931 796 5194, he can give you the
new name and location to buy it - STILL AVAILABLE!

    GOOD LUCK!

  • Thanks John, I'll give the local auto parts store, paint dealer, and the GM dealer a try with that # and see what they come up with. Failing success with that I'll give Danny a call.

    I appreciate the input!

  • what works for me, is to take something with the correct
color to a PPg auto paint store and have them scan it with
their computer, this will give them a formular for that color or they will call their library and get the correct color
