WW Tires
I have been thinking about some new wide whitewall tires for my 37 Terraplane after reading the comments on Coker tires I would probably stay away from them. Does anyone know if there will be any tire dealers at the Nationals this Year? I have Lesters tires on there now great tread but they have been on there since 1972! Thought i might save on shipping by picking up at the National meet. Chuck G

You're speaking of radials, or bias ply?0

I was thinking bias ply for the 37 not radials I was thinking if there were new ones at the nationals it would be nice to see them first before you buy, also save alot on shipping. Just a thought, also does anyone reproduce the black and white air cleaner decal for the 1937? Chuck G0

I am not sure that it would benefit a tire company to go to a "small" meet like ours (as opposed to a "big" meet like Hershey!). But...we shall see.
I'm pretty happy with the Goodyear diamond treads I put on my '37, 4 or 5 years ago. They have the original thirties pattern, and the wide whites have concentric "ribs" in them. Looks very "period". And, I went one size larger (6.50x16) and to my way of thinking, the ride and the control is slightly better. But let's face it, radials, they are NOT! I ordered mine through the local Goodyear dealer but I believe they are supplied by Lucas http://www.lucasclassictires.com/
As to the air cleaner decals, you could try 35. Bruce Levey Antique Auto Parts, 5480 Canotek Rd. Ottawa, ON K1J 9H5, Canada, tel. 800-897-2910- blaap@sympatico.ca . I have him listed as supplying them for 1937, on my Hudson Repro webpage, at http://mysite.verizon.net/detailed1/Repro_Table.pdf0 -
Thanks for the info. Jon i did look at your goodyears at the Auburn national meet and liked the Diamond tread design also. Does the car ride pretty well with them? If you had to do it again would you go with the Goodyears or a radial tire? Thanks for the aircleaner decal info.0

Chuck, I had lusted after those diamond-tread tires since I first saw them back in the 1970's. But, I had just bought some Sears Allstate whitewalls at the time and needed to get my money's worth out of them. So, 25 years later, when I had got my money's worth (LOL!) I splurged and bought the Goodyears. Lots of people told me that radials were the way to go, in terms of performance (and not getting caught in those %$#@! "trucker's ruts" on the Interstates) but aesthetics won out over mere practicality. My brain said 'no, no, no!" but my heart said "GO FOR IT!"
And, no, the car does not handle as well as if it had radials, at speed. I still have to fight the truckers' ruts on the Interstates. But maybe not quite as hard as before, with the skinnier 600x16's.
So, yes, I'd buy the Goodyears again.0 -

I wonder what tires originally came on Hudsons? I bought a 47 Commodore 6 last year, my 1st, and in the trunk is the spare, a Goodyear 6.50 16. It isn't the diamond tread pattern but it is old and shows 0 wear. What leads me to believe it could be original is that the valve stem is painted the same color as the wheel. Incidentally the car came with near new 6.50 16 bias ply blackwalls, they look like trailer tires but it drives great at 55 mph. I had bias tires on a 73 International truck, they were wider and I couldn't hold it on the road and switched to radials. I had those Goodyears with 4"ww on a 1949 International years ago and the looked great. In fact I'm going to get a set for my Hudson when I paint it, hopefully soon. I'm not sure who makes them, Goodyear sold their molds. My dad worked for Goodyear and I couldn't get his discount, because although they bear the Goodyear name, they aren't made in a Goodyear plant.0
