Essex hood

Hi! new to this forum so I will say that I'm restoring a 1928 Essex coupe to original condition and this is my first attempt at a car. I've done a few tractors, steam and gas engines, locomotives and helped restore a 1956 Ford truck. Now I pretty much got the mechanical end done and working on the body now and just found out that I have 2 hoods for a 1929 Essex:eek:. Would anyone know were to find a good hood with side panels for a 1928 Essex? Or does anyone need a hood for a 29? I had an offer for a hood located in England and Australia but the shipping would be outrageous to get it to Canada, so looking for something a little closer to home. Thanks

Since you're in the H-E-T, have you contacted some of the other folks in Alberta with '28 Essexes, to see if anyone has a spare? Raymond Ganser has been stripping the same Essex parts cars for decades now, so I would imagine the parts are gone, but he's probably worth a call. I see there is a fellow across town from you with a couple '29 "condition 5's" -- maybe he'd part with a hood (or doesn't a '29 fit a '28?). Anyway, here's hoping that your message here at the forum, prys a hood or two loose from someone!
  • Thanks Jon for the reply. Yes I have actually been up to Rays several times to get parts, unfortunatly he has no hoods at all for any of the essex's he has left. The fellow in town with the 29's I've swapped an 29 head for a crank pully but he dosen't have a hood either. I just checked the hood this afternoon and the body lines on the 29 is wider and about 3/4" higher than the 28's, as well the 29 has 2 rows of louvers compared to the 28's single row. I believe that the hood on a 29 is about 1/2" higher as well, and are not interchangable to make it correct. Man-no wonder everyone hot rodded them since its almost impossible to get the correct parts to restore one! But my parents had one and I vowed I would get it restored for them sometime.

Ruissell, if you go to the H-E-T's homepage http://www.hetclub.org/index.htm and follow the "links" link, you will find about four e-groups dealing with various Hudson products
