"NADA says $26K restored". I'm guessing he couldn't even get $6K for whatever piece of junk he has parked in his driveway.

The famos 1951 Hudson Hornet. She is in pretty decent shape, minor rust in body and floor pans, compete minus engine, trans and front bumper and maybe a couple pieces of stainless. Next best thing to a Mercury that is next to impossible to find. John.

"Hudson hornet twin-H.....complete except that it's missing the engine and transmission and front bumper and ..."

  • You know I am totally baffled by the descriptions most of these so called "Car People" use in their adds. My friends and I call them NORMAL PEOPLE for a good reason. Here's a good one:

Once in the early 90's I answered an add for a 1959 Chevy Impala sports coupe. This is my favorite styled car and finding one here in Indarustpolis, Indiana is impossible.

the guy said he had owned the car since the early 60's, it was always garaged, very minor surface rust, original engine-interior-paint. had the 348 with a stick. White outside, red & white inside. He did make a commit that it did have one dent in the body that I didn't question.

After driving for 2+ hours down to southern Indiana to find his house we drove

for another 30 minutes down back gravel county roads. I was asked to turn

down a over grown drive that looked like no one had been down in 30 years.

We wound are way thru the woods on this drive and finally came to an old

    abandon farm house.

Around back of the house was the 59 chevy setting on a concrete pad that

once had been a garage. There was a 4ft diameter maple tree laying across

the top of the chevy, smashing the roof 1/2 way down the doors. the garage

had been torn down around the car but the roof was still between the top and the tree. The tree had been cut off on each side of the car.

He was right, 1 Big a$$ dent, original paint-engine-interior and not much rust

    but totally worthless!

I firmly believe that GOD did not create this many STUPID people. Guys like him are NORMAL because if GOD had created this many STUPID people the world would have already imploded from stupidity...

Been there many times but how about this experience. Got a call one Saturday morning and the caller told me that her dad had died. Asked me if I could come by and look at his old car that had been parked in the garage for 40 years. I found the home and saw the rock garage along side. The door has a few locks on the door, a small tree in front and no windows. When we finally got the stuff cleared out and the door open here is the car....

1960 Chevrolet El Camino--6 cyl three on the tree and all original. This photo was taken after the car was washed and tuned up...
  • Sweet!

those Bat-winged 59 & 60 Chevys look so over the top.

I had a sweet 60 Impala hardtop but sold it about 15 years ago.

the 59 is the one I want but now I would take a 60.

I have a 409 in the mini barn just in case I find one hiding in my

    price range.

    later,

    PaceRacer and Brownie-

Yep, heard similar stories, many, many times. For every story that PaceRacer described, there's an equally endearing "car find" story, I assure you. Fortunately, it doesn't take long to figure out which adventure you are facing.

Here's another one: About 15 years ago, a friend of mine went to answer an ad from the newspaper that was along the lines of: "1960 Chevy for sale, doesn't run, been garaged, $1500, call XXX-XXXX". Great. 1960 Chebby? Phhhpttttt! Who cares? But, the price seemed reasonable, so after calling and speaking to an obviously elderly woman, he went to check it out.

The "garage" had been converted to a utility room decades before, and was heated and had AC from the house pumped into it. The car was over on the far side of the 2-car garage. Up on jackstands, and somewhat dusty, was the '60 Chevy. 'Cept it was a '60 Chevy Corvette. The owner told the prospective buyer that her son had bought the car on a 30-day leave, drove it around a bit and then got sent overseas on duty. A few years later, was killed in Vietnam. She never found she could part with the car till recently. She said her son paid nearly 4000 for the car new, so she figured 1500 would be a fair price for such an old car. The odometer showed a little more than 500 miles.

My friend gave the old lady $2500. She was elated. My friend was more elated. Years later, I think it was David Ball who recorded a country song about the incident.

Moral of this story is: cars are a crapshoot, you just never know what you're gonna get.

Oh, that one on the top of the page for 6K? You gotta be kidding me. There's not 6K in parts there, and you couldn't restore it for 20K.

I just found another '52 Hornet Sedan that is beautiful! Fresh paint (two0tone blue), runs and drives, engine re-built a few years ago, all stainless polished, chrome re-done, WWW, owned by the 2nd owner, always garaged, all for not much more than they are asking for junk in the ad that's sitting out on the back 40 (and probably has for the last 40 years).

:eek:Perhaps the Hudson in the picture is the parts car for the one in the garage. OOPS, would have included a picture of it, but the camera ran out of film.

Talking about "finds", Once I answered an ad for a '55 Cevy tudor sedan, really cheap. I figured maby I could make a quick buck, buy the Chevy and sell it for much more. I went to the house, saw a '55 Chevy four door sedan out front, and figured the tudor must be in the garage. The nice philipino gentleman came out and said in broken english,"there it is" pointing to the sedan out front. I replied thatis a four dooe sedan, he replied, no two doors on each side. Needless to say, I left.

Back to the dreamer and laughable Hudson in the picture, there are plenty of people who think they have the only one and it is worth a fortune. The pictured Hudson is most likely a parts car only, I bet no tittle or keys. They always say, no problem to get a tittle for the car. Of course they have never dealt with the DMV and some of the pre school drop outs that "work" there. Have a great weekend. Arnie in Nevada.
