That is the Hudson that he got out of Oregon that used to belong to Jim Harmon. We painted it like a Fabulous Hudson Hornet for the Northwest Car Collector Show at the Portland Swap Meet one year.
We used to run it into Banks and get burgers for lunch when it was painted like a race car and people really got a kick out of it.
Before Jay Leno restored it He had a picture taken of it with him leaning on it as it was when it LOOKED race ready. He had the photo published in one of his Popular Mech. issues.0 -

Only on the phone a couple times. He did invite me to tour his collection with Jim but I had already taken my vacation time where I worked at the time:(
Jim went with a few of our friends from the big OR and had a picture taken with him on stage and then went to see his collection----they had a blast.
I wish someone could find that photo from Popular Mech and post it here on the forum. It would be an issue from around June or July in maybe 1999 or 2000 I think.0 -
just to clear up some mis information. jay came to my place 3 years before purchase and told me what he wanted a HORNET COUPE WITH TWIN H AND OVERDRIVE. IT TOOK ME 3 YEARS TO FIND SUCH A CAR. I BOUGHT THIS CAR FROM JIM HARMON WHO DELIVERED TO VINTAGE COACH. I CALLED JAY AND HE CAME OUT TO MY PLACE DROVE IT AND BOUGHT IT AND DROVE IT BACK TO HIS SHOP HAVE PICS OF HIM DRIVING AWAY. IT HAD A MINT ORIGINAL CHECKERBOARD INTERIOR BUT THE FOAM WAS HARD SO HE DID A FULL RESTORATION ON THE CAR. HE LATER BOUGHT A 51 4 DOOR HORNET FOR WHICH I SUPPLIED A REBUILT DUAL RANGE HYDRO AND A RESTORED TWIN H SET UP COMPLETE. HE REALLY LIKES BOTH CARS BUT PRFERS THE STICK SHIFT COUPE. HUDSONLY BILL ALBRIGHT VINTAGE COACH0

My intention wasn't to misinform anyone Bill, it was a car that came out of Oregon, as Jay Leno says in his video and as I previously stated.0 -

I noticed in Jay's write-up that accompanied the video he stated that the Hornet was first built in 1941 and placed on the roof of the factory for the duration of the war, then brought down and put into production in 1951. True, the prototype step-down did spend the war on the roof and then went into production starting in 1948, but Jay makes it sound like the Hornet was the first and only step-down and completely ignores the 1948-1950 Commodores, Super Sixes and Pacemakers. His history is a bit skewed.

Me too! Wish I knew him, as well. I was leary of him at first when Johnny decided to leave the Tonight Show, even though Jay was "guest host", but over the years really grew to appreciate his wit and his collector prowess. He just seems like such an approachable guy. I finally watched the video y'all posted, and he sure has the Hudson bug, doesn't he? When he talks Hudsons, he's just like all the other Hudnuts I know.0 -

Jan Leno is definately a car person. I saw one of his cars at a 76 Union service station. I pulled in to look at it. While I was looking at it Jay came over and began telling me all about it. I was was surprised that he started talking to me and I hadn't even approached him with any questions about the car. He is just one of the guys and shows no pretense of his importance. He attends many of the local car shows and is often seen at the local auto book store. I just happen to live on one of the main streets in Burbank. So, almost every evening he drives by our house in a different car. Some Hudson chapter members has been to his car collection. Unfortunately I had to work that day. Lee0
