1940 Coupe Battery Strap

John, I can't say for sure where it went originally, but I'd connect it directly to a convenient bolt on the engine block or motor mount plate. You want a reasonably short distance and as few connections as possible in that path, so I don't like what the factory did in some years ... going from the battery to the frame, then a separate cable from the frame to the engine. I've got mine going from the battery to one of the bolts holding the generator bracket to the block.
One thing to be careful of on a restoration job where you're trying to make everything look pretty ... don't use any stainless steel washers or fasteners for any of the battery cable connections. When stainless is used, those connections can quickly develop significant resistance. That's the last thing you want in the starter circuit.0
