The new movie "Public Enemies" features HET cars. We all know "John Dillinger" prefered a Terraplane Eight .

In the begining of the movie he asks for cars and said "Get me a Essex"

From there will let you "Keen Eye" types watch and spot all the Hudson and Terraplanes in the movie.

Post what you see!

    going to see it Sun.
  • I enjoyed the movie this evening..Too bad we only see a glimpse of the '33 Terraplane Eight after he requests an "Essex and a Plymouth", also too bad the Plymouth is a 1935! (the movie takes place during 1933 thru the summer of 1934)I did not see any other Hudsons, but there were several other cars 1935 vintage, (Buick and LaSalle)most movie goers wouldn't know or care the cars were too new for the movie's time line...It was accurate in the cars did not have wide whites and glitzy accessories not appropriate for the depression. All in all, a good value for entertainment, and Johnny Depp is always great!!

I suspect that some years in the future history will judge it for using cars later than the time setting. Such a simple thing to get right too. So a new movie will need to be made. I'm looking forward to seeing it anyway. I also hope the car sounds are real and not just the dubbed sound of a Honda or something with a hole in the exhaust. I'd like to see some decent chases like Bullitt complete with howling tyres and gearboxes.

Saw it last night and I liked it. They didn't glamourize the gangster life so much nor were the FBI guys squeeky clean It was violent. Other than not having the correct cars stricktly speaking in historical terms the only other criticism I'd have is they switched filming/cinematography styles a couple times in the middle of the film. I know why they did it though, to give you the feeling of watching it more like a current event than a historical one.

Hmmm. Hope not too violent as I'm sort of dragging my wife along & I know she wouldn't go for that (going tonight).

An excellent book one might read in conjunction: "The Dillinger Days", now long out of print but perhaps avail. at library or used book store; author, John Toland.

Not only are some of the cars out of date, but I understand that a Milwaukee Road steam locomotive used in this movie was built in 1944. But, then again, "most movie goers wouldn't know or care" the steam engine was too new!
  • Went to see it today. Great movie, The tan '35 Buick belongs to one of the guys that attends the local cruise nights. I saw it 2 or 3 times parked on the steet in the movie.

  • They could've stuck a '57 Chevy in there, and most people wouldn't know the difference!

just returned from seeing it. Somewhat disappointed as I believe some parts not historically accurate (such as parts of the ending). He had a "Michael Jackson" job done on his face by a dr. who dealt with the criminal element, looked pretty bad, & that was left out.

I guess having read book I mentioned earlier, "The Dillinger Days", I knew too much about the subject to appreciate it more.

Local cops then used their own cars & guns, had to even pay for their ammo whereas Dillinger bought or stole new cars & had Thompson submachine guns so could outrun & outshoot them! He brazenly robbed 2 Indiana state police stations of their guns & ammo (in no. Ind. where I grew up) which is why Ind. was so hot to get him (flew officers to Tucson after arrest there to beat Ohio & Ill. from extraditing him, LOL). How he escaped from Crown Point, Ind. jail not explained in movie - he got a piece of wood + knife from prisoner in cell next to him & whittled out a '45 auto., used shoe polish & made it black.

Oh well, entertaining to me, wife thought it a bore, went to another movie down the hall, LOL!

Auburn, Indiana where we had a national meet in 2007 is where the Dillenger gang robbed a police station of their guns.

Any Terraplane that was later for sale in Indiana was said to be formerly owned by the dillinger gang.
  • A short news video clip about 2 of the cars in the movie, a Nash and a Hudson...
