1949 Stepdown Oil Filter
My six cylinder didn't come equipped with an oil filter, but does have the vacumotive drive, which I hope to restore. I'd like to put an oil filter on the freshly rebuilt engine and I've seen pictures of engines with remote oil filters. Sometimes on the right (attached to the intake manifold) and sometimes on the left. The vacumotive drive apparatus seems like it would get in the way of installing the filter on the left. 3 questions.
1. Do I bother to install a remote oil filter?
2. Are oil filters ever installed so they screw directly into the engine block?
3. Where do I find out how and where to attach the oil lines to the engine? I tried to search the forums about "oil filter", but each search term has to be at least 4 characters long.

The attachment points for any remote filter on your engine, without significant modifications, is on the left side. There are two 1/8" NPT ports that will have plugs screwed in to them. The top connection goes to the filter outlet, and the bottom attaches to the filter inlet.
Since filtering through these two ports is only what is called 'partial flow' filtering, some members discourage the addition of a filter. The potential problem is that if one of the lines were to burst at highway speed, you may not know it until you've done major engine damage.
Having said that, I do have a remote screw on filter on my '49 engine. Seems like even partial filtering is better than none. I also spent top dollar for braided steel lines to miminize my risk.
I'm not sure where you can mount it with your vacumotive drive setup, perhaps others have experienced this with their cars.0 -

I can take some additional pics of my 50 Super with the Supermatic and Oil filter mounting - but, my guess is if you find a partial flow setup - it will come with instructions and mounting brackets.0
