100th Anniversary through the eyes of an Aussie.

Well, I'm left speachless, what a gathering of great cars and people, I have never in my 50 years of being around Hudson's etc seen so many all in one place at one time, it was fabulous.

We had a ball, great to meet many new faces, as well as the ones we met in Nashville 10 years ago, great to finally put faces to names on the chat, dissapointed that the chat gathering was held while we were out on a tour as I was really looking forward to this meeting again same as we did in Nashville.

The cars were first class and was worth the trip over there,I didn't buy too much from the swap meet, due to the fact of getting the bits back home, but then, I didn't see too much around for my 1942 Brougham anyway.

The after tour organised by the Clement's was superb, went to the Gillmore , studebaker, ACDC, Hostetler museums ,Glen & Sally Kellogs home, ( what a collection of cars, parts and odds and ends relating to Hudson they have), the mind boggles, then off to the Pontius farm to view their cars etc, we were well fed at both homes for which we thank them dearly.

Once again, thanks to those involved in organising such a magnificent 100th Anniversary rally, well done.

The only draw back was the 19 hour flight home with just a two hour stop over at L.A. airport for our connecting flight back to Sydney. we are very tired so will be an early night to night, we were fortunate to be upgraded from Premium Economy to Business class so this made it a bit more comfortable for this long trip home.

  • Huddy42,

It was great to meet you there at the National. You and two of your countrmen were near the Allbright Award cars, and I asked if you could tell me who Huddy42 was. You replied by saying that you were Huddy42. I looked for you three later in order to get a picture of you but never ran across you again. Now, since I am old and remember very little anymore, can you tell me your names again so that I can keep things straight? Thanks, and I'm glad you enjoyed your trip here.

Yes indeed - it was good to see the "crazy" Aussies again. 10 years is to long, but understand. We are all 10 years older and 19 hour flights (along with 2, 3 or more days driving) are getting to be a bit much.

Sorry we didn't get to spend more time together - but there was so much to see and so many people to get to meet it was unbeleivable.

I was very glad to see John Clements arrangement for y'all - sounds like you got the Grand Tour.

It is sad, tho, to realize we may not get together again - but then again, who knows what is in the future. Hell, I might hit the lottery - then I could charter a really comfortable plane and bring you all here again sometime.

    Y'all take care now, hear.

Huddy 42, a great part of the meet for me, besides the great car gathering, was meeting so many wonderful people from other countries. I'm glad all of us were able to attend this meet. Thanks to all, for being there. Lee O'Dell, Burbank, Ca.

    G'Day Dee,

My name is Les Pendlebury, the other guys would have been ( if my memory is correct) would have been Kevin Hickling and Alan Walker, I own a 1942 two Door Brougham Kevin many cars but his main one is a 1937 LWB 8 cylinder and Alan a 1947 Hudson 8 cyl coupe, both Alan's and my car are both LHD.Glad to have had a short chat with you.

Welcome home Les. I am jealous.

Maybe some of you folks over there could come here for our National meet sometime so people like me who could't come over there could put names to faces. We couldn't come up with 400 odd cars but what we miss on quantity we make up with quality. Think about it.

While you were away Les. Australian Classic Car did an article on 100 Years of Hudson featuring 3 of our Qld. cars. I will try to scan it and post here for our overseas friends.

Duly noted, Les. I have seen photos of your 1942, and it is a beautiful car indeed. Tell Alan to ship his 1937 LWB 8 over here next year so that I can talk him out of it! I doubt that Sheldon Rody would part with his. I have always had a preference for the 1937 and 1938 eights. I have had 1936 and 1937 Hudson sixes which were great cars, but the eights really turn my crank.

Let's hope you Aussies and Kiwis can make it here to attend many more Nationals in the years to come. I know I speak for many when I say that you folks really added to this year's in a most positive way.

Thanks all for your kind remarks, we had a ball,

Dee, I think you woiuld have to line up for Kevin's '37 8 cylinder, I think he could have sold it several times over when we were there.

My first restoration was a 1934 Hudson 8 cylinder sedan, then a 1935 8 cylinder coupe, one of these were sold to buy the'42 from Hal Waddell, I think I may have sold the '34 before I had even thought of buying the '42,I would have loved the '42 to have been an 8 cylinder, but , beggers can't be chosers and am very happy with what I have.
