My family is looking for a 51-54 Hudson Hornet in Minnesota. We want a driver in good condition.

We have been looking, and it has not been easy. Sadly we spent a 10 hour round trip today to Wisconsin to look at a 52 Hudson Hornet that the owner had assured me was in great condition. Sadly, the uni-body was completely gone starting at the rear doors. The rest of the car was also worse than he described. Very frustrating.

I am hopeful that by tapping into the Hudson community we can find a great local car at a reasonable price.

Please let us know if you have a Hudson or know someone who does that fits our need.

  • Why are you limiting yourself to Minnesota and or Wisconsin? You should be looking for a nice rust free car. Pay the extra $1,500 bucks for shipping and save the money in repairs.

Also, keep in mind that if you find a good candidate, but it is too far way to check it out yourself, many of us here on the forum have gone to check on cars for prospective Hudson owners. Pictures can be taken, and there are many knowledgeable Hudson folks all over the country that will know where to look for problem areas and give you a full report on anything from rust issues, faulty paint that doesn't show up in pictures, mechanical issues, etc.

The last post by Niels is right on. Don't limit yourself to MN or WI. Branch out and the Hudson folks will be there to help. A good, solid, rust-free car can't be beat. Everything else is considerably easier to fix, if necessary.

If today taught me anything is that pictures and sellers can be misleading. Only by crawling under the car myself did I get the real story on the condition of the car (rusted out unibody). The car was from Missouri, so it should have been rust free. I do not feel safe buying sight unseen.

That is good to know, and a very nice offer. Now I just need to find some good candidates :)

I'd echo what the others said. If you're in the HET club and you call up another club member (in this case in WI.) to look at a car for you and give you an accurate assessment it would be worth it. If you're not sure about how expert a particular member is you can also always ask that here or to other members. Incidentally a lot of cars do change hands between HET members and not on the open market because a lot of HETers like to see the car they sell go to a good home where they know the car will get the attention it deserves. I know you don't have a roster at this point but you could always ask to borrow one, or go to a chapter meeting and ask whats for sale. networking goes a long way to getting you the right car at a fair price.

P.S. According to an old roster I have 2005-07 there's only roughly 15 cars in Minnesota that might meet your criteria. This of course assumes they're all still there and haven't changed hands since that time. Assumes that any of them are for sale at all. Also does not account for any Hornets in MN. outside the HET club.
