Here are a couple of picture of what we are starting with.

3773662204_fd1a0f2293_m.jpg Serial number

3773661824_bd7eec96a0_m.jpg rear view interior

3773661728_85f85e2885_m.jpg rear view

3773661536_dc80fbfd1d.jpg front 3/4 view

I think we have most all of the parts, metal, mechanical. The big thing is the interior as we have nothing, zip, nada.

If anyone knows where we could get some photos or better yet where a car is that is complete please let me know, a picture is worth a thousand words, right.

Thanks, David

Where are you?:) Also, is what we see what you got? Or do you have more stuff for this car?

I forgot to ask, I see you removed the trim from the tail section. What kind of fasteners were used there? I'm thinking of cutting mine off for fear they might be a square or rectangular piece that would damage the trim if I try and turn a rusted retainer.:)

Looks like a great project! Super-fine car. I don't have pictures of an interior, but here's one that is in the Hostetler Museum in Shipshewana, IN. Don't know where you are, but well worth a look if you are ever around northern IN.

  • we have quite a bit more parts but no interior - all of the sheet metal times two in some cases, although some is in poor shape- like the rear fenders. All of the front fenders are in good shape - all 5 of them. Dashes, windshields, and frames are near perfect. Running boards are good, seats are missing all lights are there plus some, including the little lights next to the windshield(turn signals?) a few carbs and pumps, starters, bumpers, but no interior. A few steering wheels, door knobs, etc...

The head lights are interesting, in all the pics I've seen there are 2 types of lights one is the kind in the pic here in this thread (at the gas station) the other is a torpedo style light. Don't know which is correct.

I'm in Indianapolis and my father found this car in Dearborn/Detroit area about 10-12 years ago. I will be going to the Hostetler Museum in Shipshewana - thanks for the heads up.

I'll check the trim to see how it was fastened and take a few pics.

    Thanks
  • The Boattail Essex at Hostetler's museam is a 1929. The body is completely different, it is made of aluminum by Biddle & Smart. I have a 27BT that I had at the 2 previous national meets( auburn, in & Marlboro, Ma.). Bent metal took several pic's of the interior last year. It also looks like the rear flat pan has been cut/modified, this pan should be completely under the tail section becoming the floor pan. The cowl lights were of a simular design to the Headlights and are used as parking lights, they could be re-wired to use as turn signals as well. I will try to put some pic's together of my car ans send them to you. You can see my car on the back cover of the Sept/Oct 2008 issue of the WTN. You may also try Google search for 27 EBT also.

Yes, I did take a bunch of pictures of Mr. Brintnall's car. Inside and out, and he was nice enough to EVEN REMOVE THE SEAT FOR ME! Just so I could get some pictures of the floor and behind the seat area. Heck of a nice guy. Let me look through my pics and I'll post them.

You mentioned you have more than one windshield. I could use a good one for my dad's car. His is pretty bad.:)

I have the spec sheet, with measurements for the 1927 Speedabout Roadster windshield. Can email - NEChudsontech@hetclub.org (drop the NEC) if you need a new one made.

Here are some pictures of Mr. Brintnall's car. What I can't find is any pictures of the wood that is behind the seat. It should have a panel with a door, then farther back a vertical piece so as to create a box or storage area.
  • Bent - I opened the cardboard boxes/sleves which had the windshields and to my dismay they both are broken- I could send a pattern to you if you would like. Still looking for the trim......is the trim just on the tail or the hood and cowl also, as ours has it on the hood, tail but none on the cowl and no holes for it.

Does any one have an idea of how many of these were produced in '27 and how many are around today?

Actually I said windshield, but it's the windshield 'frame' that I need. Dad's is rusted out and I'd rather not have to make one.

As for the belt line trim, I think you have a series#1. Same as my dad's and the car pictured here. You might want to do a search on this forum for 1927 Boat tails and check out some of the past information that has been brought up. The series#1 would have the trim on the tail only. The series#2 is a series#1 with an additional belt line trim piece added the whole length of the car, just a few inches below the top of the door.
  • Hi, Guy,s this is a couple of photo,s of my 27 speedabout .If these photo,s come through i will send more. Thanks. Allan, Australia.

Hi Allan, What a rare car you have and it looks in good condition. Interestling seat.

Is that another boat tail speedster in the background?

Send all the pictures you like. I would like to see more and hear more about the plans you have for fixing it up.

Thanks for sharing with us. Have a good day. Lee
