First Ride In My Hudson

Well this is my first ride in my Hudson or any Hudson for that matter!! I thought I would put it up on youtube so I could send it to my parents. I thought I would share it here as well, I know its not a big deal for most of you especially if you have a totally restored car but for me it is. I rebuilt the engine, re-did the brakes and lines, POR-15ed the entire underneath re-sealed the gas tank, POR 15ed the floor inside the car and I still have a long way to go. Walt M has visited Hawaii and comes to see me everytime he comes, he has helped me out alot. Thanks Walt!! The last time he was here he said he wanted to see the other fender on the car. LOL. I will have it on before he comes.

This is Russell's wife...Cool car! It's SO fun to see them go, even when they're not "done" yet. I don't know if that was your wife who was filming, but she needs to put her "HudNut" goggles on. Sounded (from the way she was laughing) like all she saw was a "work in progress"...or maybe just a "piece of work." She'll get there. I see it! And it looks GREAT! :)

Congratulations! It looks great and can't beat that feeling of getting it out for the first time. Thanks for sharing and keep up the great work. Hudsons ARE the best.
  • Congratulations!

Another Hudson saved and "back on the road" to recovery. (I think the one fender thing is pretty cool)

Most Hudson folks understand and appreciate the effort that goes into putting one of these cars back on the road. So we applaud your work!

Keep up the good work and keep the pics and videos coming.

  • Good luck on your restoration, looks good. Enjoyed the video.

Watch the back doors when you have children in the back. My younger brother opened the back passenger side door at about 25-35 mph. Thankfully Dad heard the latch click as the door opened and slammed on the brakes as my brother was exiting the car. The door slammed shut and pushed brother back in.

The next thing I remember my brother doing was falling head first down a foot diameter hole with no one there to help him. A neithbor saw him from a window and pulled him out. What a life. Good luck. Bob
  • Brother you are now totally BITTEN! When we first get the Hudson bug we are just in the first stages of the affliction... when we get to buy a Hudson the second stage sets in... and the affliction becomes a life long longing the day we first dare to drive the object of all this affliction (affection) Great stuff thanks fo sharing with us mainlanders.

You're one up on me now - the closest I've come to driving a Hudson is rolling one off the trailer :o Way to go!

Don't worry about the "snickers" from folks (they just don't understand :p)

One day, I too hope to blast a Hudson down the road, unlicensed and unfinished...you've given me some hope today, Thanks!

You better hurry on that right front fender as Margaret and I are leaving for Maui, HA, on Aug 25 for 10 days in the sun and will call you to inspect the Hudson. Just finished our cross country trip, Goshen, CT. then to Pontiac, MI. then to Fort Wayne, IN. then to South Bend, IN. then a trip through Medicine, Bow, WY. through snow at 11 thousand feet. Hudson never gave a problem. Short trip this year as we only traveled 7,100 miles. Sam wants a complete story of our trip. In your next photos have Joyce run out into the street and catch it all. Walt.
  • Thanks alot. I still have a long way to go but its getting there. That is my wife's voice on the video. She says she meant she would not ride in it the way it looks right now, she cant see it finished yet, and shes always laughing at me anyway in a good way. I had a '59 metropolitan and she loved to ride around in that. As I am backing out the drive way in the video I almost ran over the cat!! You can see her step out of the as I reach the bottom of the driveway. It will be good to see you again Walt, looking forward to it and the fender will be on!

Jeff, I can relate. I've been there, with the milk crate for a seat. No fenders or doors. Driving around the neighborhood with my wife laughing.

What fun!! Keep us posted with more progress.

Enjoyed the video Jeff. Took me back to remember several first rides after fixin em up.

The 49 Commadore,(driven to Pontiac), the 36 Terraplane, the 52 Hornet, and the 47 Pickup that I got so excited about that I forgot to tighten the left rear lug bolts, and lost the wheel half a mile from home with no jack or spare. Didn't do the rear fender any good either.

Inspires me to get the 40 Eight coupe together for that first ride this summer sittin on a milk crate.

    Have Fun!

    Thanks for sharing the video,

Your driving the car like this is what "Hudsoning" is about"

When you get to driving a HUDSON you will never want to be without one.

Please keep us up to date with more video as you complete the car.

The video reminds me of my first Hudson project, a 46 C8 sedan. After 20 years in storage, my first joyride in it, it looked very much like yours yours(with both fenders lol).

Unfortunately that project got put on hold 13 years ago, but I'm hoping to get it started back up soon

Thanks for posting the video, this is what the hobby as all about.

Ahh, she laughs. . . but look which car goes back into the garage! lol

Actually, the laughter tells it all- she may not be too "into" the whole project, but she sees how much it means to you, so shares your joy. That's what its all about, and its whats kept me and the Mrs. together for 38 years.

Reminds me of driving our Jet around in our housing development the first summer we had it and all the looks I was getting from the neighbors. We're trying to have ours done by months end to debut at the LeMay Car Show. I'm so anxious.
  • Thanks for all the comments, they have inspired me to keep working on it and get it done. I really enjoy getting a car running and taking it out for a drive even though its not done. Makes me feel good. Most of the things that are left are the bigger $$ items. I am a little afraid to spend right now, the economy here is bad just like everywhere else I guess. Not many tourists coming.

As one who has been there I share the excitement with you. I love the process and get excited as the hobby grows and other folks enjoy the experience of driving their car for the first time. Good luck....
