12 volt conversion/alternator questions

Hi guys, we have been having some issues with the 12v conversion that was recently done on my 49.

It would start and run fine but if it sat for a few days to a week the battery would be deader than a doornail.

The battery would continually drain to nothing..replaced one battery and got the replacement charged up after it too was drained. All this happened over 4 weeks or so, the car would sit for a week to see if it would drain.

We found out that the alternator-it is a single wire chevy alternator, put out was about 20 amps lower than what it should be and there was a draw when checked with the multimeter of about -.306 amps. We checked to be sure nothing was on..which nothing was. I replaced the alternator but got the same readings.

The only thing we could maybe see is that the plug into the alternator was wired in opposite of what it should be...could this be our issue?
