35 terraplane

I've got a '35 top frame, but I'm trying to find a '35 Terraplane to put it on.:D Just kidding. Seriously, though, I'm in the middle of restoring a Stepdown convertible, where the same top frames were used from '48-'54. You'd think that seven years of using the same part, there would be gobs of parts laying around, but that just isn't the case. I've had to manufacture all new hardware, have several castings made, and gone through some of the upper levels of hell trying to make all the junky pieces I have work.
Compared to a '35, I must have it easy. Chances of finding a complete top frame for a '35, while certainly not impossible, will most likely result in having someone help you make patterns and fabricating most if not all of the pieces involved. Keep up the search and follow up on all possible leads, as this scavenger hunt of yours is likely to be timely and very trying.
Good Luck and keep us abreast of your progress and I'll certainly keep my eyes and ears open.0 -
I think 34 and 35 were both fit with the same top. I believe Briggs body converted both year coupes into convertables. At the same time they chopped the top 3" to make them look lower and longer. I wish I new about 5 years ago when I had mine laying all over the garage. The metal for length variance was slotted. This made me think the bows were probably made for several make cars that were bodied at Briggs. When I had mine apart the bows didn't look to tough and I had a wood man make the wood bows and behind the door wood. There is a heavy casting or forged pc. in the door post and if you have it and a lot of patience you will be able to come up with one. I would be happy to take photos of mine with measurments to help you get going. Don't forget why you have a rag top, to put it down on a nice day and keep the rain off on a bad one and when it's raining no one looks at your top. With this in mind, it does'nt have to please anyone but you.0

Hi guys thanks for the input this car of mine has been a real funny one but check this out. I live about 2 miles from a showground here in the uk. Well there was a show on all week for the VSCC and it was open to the public free of charge today and i have seen some lovely cars, guess what a 35 Terraplane convertible and the gent that owns it lives about 35 miles from me! I don't know how to upload some pics but as soon as i do i will put a couple up. The gentleman concerned was a member of the Railton owners club and was extremely helpful, so i have a patern to hand, i am so chuffed. Apparantley he knew of another on in Wales but never knew mine existed. It was quite a surprise for him. His car was on wire wheels but they had been widened slightly and in someways looked better, but my wheels have been shotblasted and powder coated so they will be staying as they are. The best thing yet is my wife absolutley adores it now she has seen one in the flesh so to speak. Again thanks for all your comments and i will keep everyone posted.
