Here is what I learned about my '37 Hudson Eight Custom Touring sedan model 77.

The right rear door is the only one that has a door jamb switch. When the door is opened the interior dome lamp comes on. Today I noticed when the the right rear door is opened the tailights and license plate lamp come on.

Does anyone else have a Hudson that does this?

    Brings two thoughts to mind - one, obviously, that somehow the interior lights got wired into the tail and license plate light;

    the other thought is that maybe it was wired that way for safety reasons. Think about it - it's night, you're on the street, you open the back door and the tail lights come on giving warning to a car coming down the street there is a car parked here.

    Now, where'd I put the electrical schematics handbook.................ok, first thing is the license plate light is wired thru the tail and stop lamps - from there the line goes to the B fuse in the terminal what-cha-ma-callit thingy. (Hey, it's early - I'm not awake yet!!!!!!!!)

    Dome light goes to the same place. It's a dotted line, whatever that means. There is also, wired thru pillar switch to the dome light is an arm rest cigar lighter.

    It would appear that the connection to the dome lamp has been connected to the wrong terminal on the light switch. It should ocme from the "X" terminal, and I suspect ti is connected to the "T" termnal instead. Otherwise somehow the wires are shorted together, which would seem unlikely. The dotted lines on the wiring diagram are for optionally installed features.

    It probably should go to the "X" terminal, but the wiring diagram I'm looking at shows a wire (optional) going to the "B" terminal.

    And now that you mention it (dotted lines) you are correct on the optionally installed - if I'd been awake I would have remembered that. :D The "optional" wiring from the "X" terminal is shown as going thru the pillar switch to the dome light, with another wire (again, optional) tapping in from a cigar lighter. Another wire is shown coming the "B" terminal to the dome light door switch - then to the dome light.
