Restoration Question Should I or NOT?
I have this Grille and Terraplane name tag that need work. I am not restoring the car to all original and my question is, Should I have this name tag re-enameled and rechromed?
The Grille, should I straighten it out to the best of my ability and then have it rechromed as well?
The surrounding chrome looks about unrepairable to me, do you have any suggestions?
Thanks in advance for any advice, I really appreciate it.
I'm having trouble uploading photos tonight, I will try to upload them later.
Here are links to my photos, for some reason I can't get them uploaded here in the forum.

i cannot remember what year your car is, but the surround is likely stainless. to give you an idea of what can be reclaimed, i have a friend of mine who works in a high end resto shop. he was just about finished with the stainless drip rail on a shelby mustang and says he got distracted and the entire drip rail wrapped around the buffing wheel. i saw the car when done and could not tell which side it happen to. regards, tom0

We can better answer the question or have an opinion if we see a photo or know the year. I am shocked at what you are able to do with stainless. I would much rather do stainless than prep for chrome...0

I've heard "horror stories" before about having commercial shops do stainless and always did my own, although tedious. I bought a buffier/grinder & put 2 different grades/types of buffers on it.
I found an excellent article in Skinned Knuckles on what materials to use (the different rouges). I made some small pieces of hard wood & some small metal tools to be able to reach into small areas to carefull push/hammer out dents using a soft wood to rest the stainless on. These were most applicable when I restored my '39 BB PU on which all the stainless was very narrow.
I've always enjoyed "doing my own thing" rather than paying someone else to do work I can do - obviously one can't do your own chrome plating & in today's envoirnment, paint a car either (usually). To me there is a lot more "pride of ownership" if I've done most of the work ( even removed the bed & cab off the frame of the '39 PU with a big "cherry picker" & HET pal Buzz Stahl's muscle).
Hope these little tips may be of some use to someone.0 -
The car in question is a 1935 Terraplane. I cannot upload photos here for some strange reason so I have added these links so you can see the photos.

THANKS!!! Don't know why I couldn't do that myself.
I was wondering if it's possible to straighten out all that grillwork myself or if I should have someone else do it that knows what they are doing. Same with the stainless trim. Also wondering if it's OK to have that Terraplane log re-enameled.0
