1954 Jetliner continental spare kit and fender skirts

I am in the process of buying a 1954 2 door Jetliner that has the continental spare kit and fender skirts. I will probably not be keeping these on the car. How hard is it to remove the continental spare kit? I'm asking because I have not seen the Jet in person yet.

If anybody is interested in the continental spare kit and/or the fender skirts let me know. I should have pictures by the end of the week.

Thanks, David

  • Is the Jet you are buying owned by Martin White?
  • The kit is not hard to remove, you will just have a lot of rusty bolts. Is this the Jet that was in Ohio??

  • No, this Jet is out west in California. My friend is delivering a car to Las Vegas and is going to bring the Jet back to Texas. I'm putting in a modified 308 and the continental spare/fender skirts just won't look right the way I'm fixing the car.

you're going to modify, perhaps irrepairably, a very rare Jet, but perhaps you know that & don't care?

Perhaps he knows, and figures its his car. To each his own. There seem to be plenty of old cars of every description, rotting into the ground out behind some guy's place who'll "get around to restoring them someday." Just nice to see some of them actually get back on the road, in whatever form suits the owner.
  • The car I'm looking at has ALREADY been modified...the 202 is long gone and whatever V8 replaced it is too. I consider putting in a Hudson 308 better than swapping in a brand X V-8. Plus the continental spare and fender skirts were NOT on the car when he got it...he added them later.

I don't consider taking off the added on continental spare kit and fender skirts that bad of a thing...I don't like the way they look. That's one reason I posted on here - if someone is looking for a continental spare kit or fender skirts I would rather someone on this forum have them.

I know how hard it is to find a good 2 door Jet - I've been looking for OVER 3 years. I probably wouldn't modify a real nice ALL ORIGINAL Jet 2 door. But this car has already been modified so it really is what I've been looking for. Didn't mean to upset anyone - just trying to save the Jet from an unsure future - better running and driving with a Hudson 308 than going to the crusher!

OK, sounds like you're on the road to bringing it back, or at least improving it.

I had a very nice original '54 JL 2 dr. a long time ago with all the accessories & the red & white vinyl interior - sure was a cute car, was wife's "driver".
  • I wish I could find a real nice Jet 2 door to restore. One with the Twin H option and an O/D would be a great little car. I agree that a nice '54 Jetliner 2 door should be restored all original - I apologize if my remarks came across the wrong way.
