My first ride in the 51
I had intended to post a pic of the 51 Pacemaker but maybe later. I had been working on the 51 for about a year off and on and finally finished the mechanical stuff yesterday. I put a completely new brake system on with the original drums turned. I also put a new clutch and pressure plate(from Doug Wildrick) in with a new throw-out bearing that I had. It is smooth as silk !! New U-joints, and I pulled the axles and checked the bearings, they were fine so I packed them and installed. All new front wheel bearings also. Wipers work, all lights work, life is good !!
You have to remember this car sat for 35 years in a garage until I bought it. It is still pretty ugly on the outside but the beauty is underneath. The car has overdrive and I never expected it to work on my first ride but it works flawlessly. I went on the highway for a short distance and it went up just over 70 MPH and purred along quietly. "what a surprise".
I have not tried the "Drivemaster yet, kinda scared to !!
Anyway, that is about it, I have been pleasantly surprised. Richie.

Thanks huddy42, I may try it later on after I read the manual and know what to expect. It would take some getting use to I'm sure. Richie.0 -
Thats fun stuff. I'm hoping that one of these weekends will be my first ride in my truck. Unfortunately, it's hard to find anytime to work on it.
Will you have the 51 in Pigeon Forge?0 -
Hey Matt, I hope you get to have your first ride in your truck soon. It is cool doing that kind of stuff and always being careful at the same time not to have any seriuos issues. I need to drive the 51 around for a while to make sure everything checks out OK, but yes I plan to drive it to P/F. That should be a fun weekend seeing everyone again and hopefully it will not rain this time !! See you at Pigeon Forge!! Richie.0
