Right or Left
I'm reinstalling the rear springs on my 41 Hudson. The left spring shackle is left hand thread on the lower section. The front part of of the main spring has an 'L' stamped on it. This spring came off the right hand side of the car.[Sitting behind the wheel] Question is ,Did Hudson call left hand looking at the car from the front? Hard to believe they put it on wrong at the factory and it sure doesn't look like it's ever been replaced. Thanks for any info. Jim

"Right and Left" is universal in the automotive industry: determined from driver sitting behind wheel. (Passenger side = Right side). Hudson was not alone in these determinations.
Sounds like your rear spring was put on the wrong side. I would not believe that the factory made a mistake like that, but anything's possible with Hudson.0 -
there is no left and right as far as the springs themselves go..only one part number in book. however, there is left and right on the spring covers, so depends on where the stamp is. my 41 pickup has no left and right stamps, but pickups came with no spring covers.:)0

Driver sitting behind the wheel in Australia .....Passenger side in Australia is left side unless like me you do drive a LHD Hudson or Terraplane. So confusing eh.????

Yep, beg your pardon. Should've listed it as: regardless of whether it is RHD or LHD, from behind the wheel, left side of car corresponds to your left hand, right side of car corresponds to your right hand . . . assuming of course, the steering wheel isn't in the trunk.0 -
Just to make sure that these shackles are installed correctally, which side are the grease fittings after installation? Facing the outside of the frame or facing inward? There are no pictures in any of the manuals showing a picture of this and I just want to get the install correct the first time. Thanks0

grease fitting face towards the middle of the car on both sides.0

make sure upper and lower bushings are installed to the same depth. you want them as deep as possible without hitting end of zerk, effectivly blocking off grease installation. hudson had a gauge tool for this, but I didn't have one, so this is how I did it. zerks point to inside. only place I found to get new front steel mount pins was on ebay, guy who sells tons of new hudson suspension parts in last few months.0
