Multiple dump tubes?

I recently heard that "back in the day", one of the practices on Hudson 6's was to change out the front tappet cover for one with the hole and dump tube and run two dump tubes, or breather tubes. Claim was better "breathability", which of course makes sense.
I was wondering about pros and cons on this. Anyone with some experience care to comment?
The main reason I ask is because since my fiasco at trying to drive to the National in the Hudson, I've got to re-attach my tappet cover from checking the valves and I just got gaskets from Randy Maas the other day. Figured, if I was going to make some change, now would be the time to do it.

two breather tubes is the way a 37 Terraplane came from the factory others are that way also. Chuck G0

Thanks, Rick. I had forgotten about that post, even though it wasn't that long ago.
Well, other than Chuck's post, I think the jury is still out on being able to identify whether or not you have a 212 based on breather tube quantities.
I've had a couple different people now tell me that when they hopped up the Hudson, this was one of the little tweaks that they made.
It's too easy a change to be able to say whether or not it came from the factory simply by whether you have one, or two or none, especially if there were folks who used to swap these around, add more, etc.0 -
Rick-
And that E-Bay listing: I think he DID list that info per your thread.0 -
In that famous July '65 Hot Rod article, Jack Clifford is standing over a 308Hudson that plainly has two draft tubes. A draft tube on each tappet pan.
I'm not really sure of the advantage gained. On the other hand, I'm pretty sure it isn't going to hurt anything either.
Why not then, somebody may think you have a super secret 7x going on.

That, and one of these to replace the stock oil breather cap...

A lot cheaper than the K&N unit, and probably fits better too.
I like that!
I'll put that on my wish list, along with the chrome lug nut covers to hide my rusty head bolts.0 -
Russell, I know a guy who is racing a Hornet coupe right now and that is exactly what he's doing. He put on a filter at the front of the engine and used a tappett cover that had the tube on it from the rear of another engine. Works great. Improves air circulation. he swears by it.0

I think I'm gonna do it, Lance, but that means I'll have to rob my extra engine of it's breather tube and tappet cover. Got any extras?0 -
If I remember correctly, some racers, perhaps at Bonneville, use some kind of vacuum pump to scavenge the air from the crankcase, because each time a piston comes down, it is pushing air, just as when it goes up, it pushes air into the combustion chamber (or out the exhaust).
Even though another piston is going up to compensate for the one going down, that other piston might be at the other end of the engine, with various parts in the way, so there is some force necessary to push the air around.
Does anyone know about this? That would be a benefit to having more than one crankcase breather.0 -

Yep sure do.0 -
FYI
When Dirt racing the Hornets everyone always had two draft tubes.... Currently, all my Hudsons have PCV Systems, be it right or wrong. I use a Chevy V8 Valve placed into a gromet in the valve cover with a hose to vacume source. I put a MOPAR type oil cap (with a nipple) on the fill pipe with a 5/8 hose over to the bottom of one of the air filters. (I drill the cannister and shove the hose in, but another application, I fastened the hose outside of the filter.0 -
