Hydro bushing?

I'm finally getting around to swapping the engines for my 51 Commodore 8. First thing I have to do is have the crankshaft relieved for the Hydro nose. My 51 has a rod knocking, and my good engine came out of a 49, so it's not quite a bolt in thing. Before I start, where do I get the bushing that fits in the crank relief? Or, where can I find dimensions so my machinist has an idea where to start? Any comments are appreciated.

You are in for some heavy work. Crankshaft must be removed to rebore bushing hole. NAPA has the bushings or try Dale Cooper. You may have trouble as the 49 is the narrow block and the 51 is a wide block. Walt.

Walt, does wide-block narrow-block apply to the eights?
  • Joe---I think the 8 cylinder engine went to a wider block with the 48 introduction & maintained through their demise in 52. Your 49 engine should not present any problem in that department.---Cliff Minard
