Joe is a good man, honest as the day is long. When you visit with Joe have him take you to lunch for the best bar-b-que in the South....0
-
That must be at "Porky's"0
-
The best bar-b-Q? HaHaHaHaHa. LOL!
Those boys aren't in Texas, y'all, they're in FLORIDA.0 -
Russ,
Tried the stuff from Dumas to Brownsville and most spots inbetween. I agree Texas (my adopted state of choice) knows their bar-b-que. Joe took me over to His place (Yes, it is called Porkie's Original BBQ on Main in Apopka) and we had a feast. I never miss an opportunity to eat the stuff when I am on the road, and I agree Texas knows what they are doing. However, and this is the BIG However; the folks at Porkie's left me wishing (and almost planning--if it were not for my love of Fredericksburg and the hill country) I could move down there for retirement. This Utah boy loves his BBQ, and it would be hog heaven to be in either location.0 -
Brownie: With your recent comment about retiring... are you planning to move to TEXAS? BTW Fredericksburg is a favorite place for me too. If I could get my wife to leave we would be there now. PORKYS serve pulled pork BBQ or Texas style beef, ribs and sausage?0
-
Oh come on fellows - we ALL know the best B-B-Q is in Tennessee. From Knoxville to Memphis yhere are so many places with the best they are to numerous to mention. Just wash it down with some of that good old mountain dew!!!!!

Maybe we need to rethread this one.
Alabama has several winners also, ever heard of Dreamland in Tuscaloosa, AL; Gibsons in Decatur, Southern and Singletons in Florence. The list gets longer if you go farther south. We usually like the smoked meats, not dipped. Ya'll come, B0 -
Ken, I would love to move to Texas. As I said--it is my adopted home since I lived there for almost 4 years. I have spent a great deal of time in San Antonio and in Houston (With NASA). But Alas, I am so intrenched in Utah I doubt that I will be able to spend more than three months at a time every few years. I do love the hill country (we spent a week there last July) and would love to have me one of those old homes, restored, in German Town just off main. Stop by Fredericksburg Brewing Co and have a tankard for me. Love that place...0

Know the place, been there many times. Fredericksburg is about 40 miles from me, as I live in the eastern part of the hill country.0 -
Maybe Joe should have opened up a BBQ or 'Pit Beef' stand...
Are you insinuating we got off the subject?:D0 -
Whilst living in northern VA, Vicki and I found that food in general, including BBQ) was not nearly as good as southern cooking back home. Probably a biased opinion, 'cause we're from here, but one of the things we missed was good 'ol southern cooking.
Back to the subject of Joe, met him at the Nat'l. and bought a step-down antenna from him that is made of stainless steel-- nice piece.
Also, bought one of his "Renu" tanks (stepdown tank with the renu process on it).
Nice guy, good to do business with.
Is Joe here on the board? If he is, am not aware of it.0 -
I would often visit with Joe when I was on business at the cape. We hit a few car shows and naturally ate more BBQ than most folks need to. Great guy. Glad to call him a friend. He was in the process of setting up his business last time I was down that way.0

What is the price of a Renu preped tank for a stepdown? Thanks, Bob0

I think it's $400 with a core excange. I got a "show special" (not sure how special it was) for $300.00.
It's a good job, inside and out is coated. Joe cuts a section out of the top of the tank, thoroughly cleans inside and out, then welds top piece back in. Inside is coated with a rubber-type lining.
My only complaint is that the outer coating is a thick rubber-butyl type of coating and does not look stock, but hey, it's the gas tank afterall, how many other people than me is actually going to see it? Should have less potential problems in the future and will last a long time.
Comes with guarantee. There's a brass stamp placed on top of the tank that tells them when and who did the work on it.0 -
Got a call from Joe today. He appreciates all the fine comments from everyone and is ready to share ribs with anyone who makes it to the area. By the way, he has a few cars for sale. Give him a call (407.222.0524)0
