Park W. Overdrive solenoid

Park, I checked the o/d solenoid that came out of the 51 the way you suggested and found that the hold-in coil does not work. The pull-in coil does work fine. I took it apart and filed the contacts but it still doesn't work, so must be shorted to ground and that is why it blew the fuses. Thanks again for your help. Richie.

Richie, sorry if I caused some confusion inreferring to separate pull-in and hold-in coil connections. I'd "mis-remembered" your initial post, and was thinking you were dealing with a '49 solenoid, which does have separate connections for each function. So if you apply power (and ground) to that solenoid, it just "chatters"? That's what it should do if the hold-in coil's faulty.

Park, you didn't cause any confusion. The solenoid that I tested has only two terminals, #4 and #6 and I tested it exactly the way you described and it tested faulty. No hold-in at all and it did chatter for a second and I disconnected it quickly at that point. I drove the car around for an hour today with the solenoid out of the 50 and everything works great. The solenoid out of the 50 is shorter than the one from the 51 but seems to work fine. Thanks for all the advice Park, I appreciate it. Richie.
