A day on the Salt Flats

It is about 90 miles west of the city of Salt Lake and you have the Bonneville Salt Flats. This week the California Racing Association is holding their World Finals on the Salt. We (Our President and myself) made it to the salt around nine and started walking along the line up of folks ready to challenge the black line. Near the front of the long track line we ran into "The Hudson Boys" http://www.thehudsonboys.com The number on the side of their car was 308. Yes, with some modern machining this Hudson standby is setting records that are not being matched even today. Don Wilson, the powers behind this team, and all around nice guy, took some realy important time to share with his hobby and the life he has spent racing Hudsons. A real gentleman that currently holds 16 Land Speed Records--maybe more, that was yesterday. Visit his website--it is not as good as being on the salt with him for a day, but you will get a feel......

    Thanks, Brownie. Very cool site.
  • I ran into those guys a few years ago on the salt. I didn't see them at speedweek this year, perhaps they just went ot the world finals?

They definitely didn't make the August show---we looked for them also. Wish we could have been up for the World Finals, too----but---

Didn't see any Hudson-powered cars this year.

Bonneville is still the "Greatest Show in Racing", Indy notwithstanding.

Hey, Hudsoncustom, haven't seen any reports on the Pantydropper for awhile! Is it ready for the show circuit yet?
