Forum Statistics
Looking at the forum statistics lately it is quite shocking the number of views on the various posts. I find it hard to believe that over 1,800 people have viewed my comment on mileage and some of the others are way way higher than I would have guessed. Anyone know what is going on? It just seems to be more than I would have thought. Although I think Hudson's are great I can't believe that many thousands are searching out and viewing our forum.

The page views appear to be counting each visit, not unique page views per ip address.
I'm not sure if the site owners changed the metrics or if it's always been done like this.0 -

That makes sense- I view any post that interests me several times, as new responses are posted. I'll bet the Bill Albright post sets a new record, and deservedly so. I had hoped to visit him this winter on a planned trip to Arizona, but "woulda, coulda, shoulda." Don't put off going to see that elderly relative or friend- you never know when it will be too late. . .:(
While we're talking statistics, I continue to be amazed at the number of "guests" on the board compared to "members" at any given time. I'm a "member" of every board I go to- 'course, I just can't resist "talking", and you have to join to do that. Guess I'm surprised at the number of people who are content to just look and not respond.0 -
100 people have made 200 visits to the posting on Bill? No way.0
-
Sam, I've made several visits to read the postings by others on the Bill Albright posting. So, 100 people have made 200 visits - it's possible.

Does that mean it's only averaging 2 visits per person? Heck, I've been to that thread probably 12-15 times myself.0

If its only averaging 2 visits per person, over 10,000 people have clicked on it...500 or so in the last hour. :eek:0 -

Same for me, I revisit threads quite often to see and read new posts - not uncommon at all.0 -
Yup, same here!

Believe what you want. There are supposedly 60 people logged in right now, most of them "guests." If each person accessed this one posting 10 times each in the last two hours, that's 600 hits. It's a long way from there to the 22,000 hits recorded. I'm surprised the "guests" are so interested in Bill...:cool:0

Nope, something's up. The "Bill Albright: How many Hudsons did he touch" post had 600 reads on it earlier today or yesterday. Now it's thousands more. Dunno, but not right.0

I don't know why you're belaboring the point - currently the site is counting each visit to the thread NOT by IP address or unique page views.
Easy to verify - open a browser window to the forum. Note the View count on a thread and navigate to the thread discussion.
Open a seperate browser window and note the new count - it's higher.0 -
Some info for all you counters. We have over 1,500 registered members on the Hudsonclub.org site. We traffic about 600 registered users a day from that site and another 2,200 in guests.
When Bill past away last Friday, we had 135 sign-ups to the Hudsonclub.org site. We had another 55 sign-ups at the ClassicCar.com site. We average about 20 a day on CC and about 8 on the HudsonClub site on normal days.
Also, the post about Bill Albright is page 1 of a Google search for his name. So, you have forum listing in the search engines too.
Yes we count views, not IP's. We want to know how many pages are being turned. Revisits are common on hot topics.
We average about 300 total users in a one hour block, both members and guests on the forums. We do not count spiders or robots that crawl the sites each day....or there would be some crazy numbers that would not make sense.
We check the forum stats with our server logs and we see numbers that match pretty close....in fact the forum reports a little lower than server logs.
The world is a large place. We are just a tiny bit of it.0 -
seems to me some thing has changed. if you go back a few months and check those posts, the highest views i saw for any post was 1900. we've got 26,000 on one post here???? seems odd. regards, tom0

We list all our posts in the search engines. We also have added Digg and point news. We are tied into Facebook now and a few other social networking sites.
It really depends on what people are searching for. Google has brought in the most hits to the Bill Albright post.
I am not sure why there is concern over the number of reads to a post? We spend a great deal of time listing and getting people to come to the forums. Views increase every day. Especially when it get cold.....and drop off some when the weather warms up.....I can't figure it out :rolleyes:0 -

1500 registered members on the Hudsonclub.org site???????? I didn't know there were that many club members with computers!!!! That's coming close to half the club members.

AHHH! So every post is listed on Google. Thus, if some antique Ford owner is Googling "6-volt negative ground batteries", and comes upon a link that leads him to one of our Hudson Forum discussions on 6-volt batteries, and clicks on it -- he arrives at Classiccar. And in so doing, registers one "hit" with the Classiccar website (and the Hudson Forum).
The Ford guy might read the thread on 6-volt batteries, conclude that it didn't help him with his Ford, and depart forever. But he still leaves the on-line counter with one more digit.
In that case, I can understand why we're so popular! Not that this isn't a great accomplishment, mind you. Some of those hundreds of thousands of people who see a Classiccar postings or replies when they Google a particular subject, just might become intrigued and hang around the Hudson (or other Classiccar) Forum. The main thing is, now the mystery of the huge number of viewers on the Hudson Forum is solved!0 -

Registered Members is does not mean HET members to us. If you are register on one of our sites, you are a member, if not, you are a Guest.0 -
Also the more active section is, rates higher in the search engine. And, Hudson Folks are Active posters....thus your success as a group.0
