You are a funny, funny man.0 -
There was no trace of the carpet in the front but I did notice carpet on the footrest in the back that looks tan, but I have no idea if that is original or even if it is, what it looked like 50 years ago before dirt, wear, and fading.0

NICE! I wonder how well it will clean up and how close I can find to a match for it in the front. There is nothing left of it up front.0 -
Believe it or not, if you want originality, there is an extremely close match to the original carpet at Lowe's. Take a small piece in to match it, but it has the grooves in it the way the original does, color is slightly different. After purchasing, you can always send it to an upholsterer to put the "smile" and the binding on.0

Good to know, thanks. I should start writing some of this stuff down before I forget :eek:0 -

Home Depot carries the same carpet. It is a lot thinner and lighter than the original which was wool. You may be able to have an upholster bind the edges and sew on a backing to give it some more weight. This type of carpet has a tendency to move around unless it is glued down, which is how it is supposed to be installed. I put the blue in mine because I could not find any brown close enough.0 -

Yes, which is why I chose not to go this route. Probably good with a good backing and pad and glue it down. That carpet seems pretty "stiff" to me. I got the last set from Bob Rosol, who owns an upholstery shop and is a club member. He's also supplying the carpet and the top for the convertible. His set runs around $325.00 or so, and the HD or Lowe's route is a lot cheaper, I'm sure.0 -

You are looking around $50.00 if you do your own installation. I went this route for two reasons, 1. The pattern was as close as I have seen to the original. 2. I am still undecided as to what direction I am going with the interior. I do not think a my sedan is worth $89.00 a yard material. But I am undecided on what material and color to use to tie all the colors a '52 blue interior has.0
