Tilting Rocker Panels?

Not too long ago, Alex left me a book about Hudsons. It is a rather strange compilation of car reports of various Hudson cars from '48-'57. In one of the articles is a picture of a mechanic checking air pressure in the rear tire of a stepdown and he has pivoted the fender skirts down and out so that it sits horizontal and can access the valve stem.

I had know idea that you could do this, as a matter of fact, I'd be leary of doing for fear of bending the retaining rods. Also made me wonder if anyone ever does this or just remove the fender skirts as I always do?

I also was a little surprised that no one has ever mentioned this to me or shown me that it was even possible. Is that a shocker to most of y'all too? Or is it just me?

  • Russell: All of the 48-53 Hudson Skirts will tilt and rotate... with the caveot that the retaining rods are not rusted fast to the skirt. THe retaining rods are designed to allow the skirt to pull down and pivot out.

Wouldn´t that scratch the paint at the edges?

P.S. @ Ken... thank you very much for your great Stepdown Resto website, it has been a great help for me when I restored my ´49 Super Six!
