Chroming a wiper transmission

Guys, I want to rechrome the chrome parts of the wiper transmissions where they exit the cowl. I have a 53 hornet. What is the best way to take them apart with out destroying them? It looks like the shafts press out but I want to be sure.

  • You might not necessarily have to remove the shaft; have you spoken to the plating company about this? It is possible that you can simply unbolt and remove whatever is easily removable, and leave the rest in place.

Jay, If you'd be interested in a pair of NOS wiper transmissons and cables (with no pits, etc., in the chrome), drop me an e-mail at pwald@mindspring.com
  • The shaft comes out from the rear. Just drive it out with a small punch. Grind rivets off that hold the small metal piece and the cable will come out. BK. TN.
