My understanding is that the engine numbers and body numbers did not match until sometime in 1938. At least so says Alex Burr in his Hudson Handbook.0

Hudson engine numbers were numbered progressively, so the engine number has little relevance to the chassis number, as cars were numbered for various models. However, the engine in my '29 7 passenger sedan is 600,633, so your engine is within the '29 model range, as there were around 58,000 Hudson built that year. Hudson built more engines than cars.
