Hi All,

I'm having a great time getting to know the little lady. This forum has been a wealth of information, thank you all very much.

I am getting most of the bugs worked out pretty well after all she was sitting for the past 10 or 12 years. I have run into one part I havn't been able to find and hope some one here can point me in the right direction. I am in need of a fuel tank sending unit. I have read all I can find about it but no help so far. I did read that for the 36s and newer a Ford unit would work but not sure if it would work in mine. I did go to NAPA and they can't even get the Ford part and looked at me kind of funny when I asked about the part for the Terraplane.

Here is a couple pictures of the of what I have.

Any info will be gratefully appreciated.

If you have the original sending unit, talk with one of the folks advertising in Hemmings for repair of these units. Too bad the '35 isn't same as '36-'47. Checking the parts book, it appears even the mounting screw hole pattern is different (different gasket for '35 and '36). Darn!
  • I took my 37 unit apart , { was all corroded up } cleaned it up good , put a new float on it and it works just fine . BUD

hello, i had no luck finding someone to rebuild the '35 sending units..sent it to three big rebuilders..all said no luck. my '35 had a corroded water level sending unit..same as fuel sender. i put a '36 ford unit in the gas tank and put the hudson gas sender in the radiator..just swapped the hudson water level float mechanism with the hudson fuel level float mechanism. the ford unit would give me a relative reading..the gauge would start down from the top when the tank had 2 gallons left. any way, the hole pattern is the same on the ford unit and our '35's. for reasons i can no longer remember..even though the ford sender works on a different principle, it sent a somewhat usable signal to the gauge. this year i swapped out the water level sender and put it back in the tank..i figure it will last forever there versus corroding out in a couple more years in the radiator. regards, tom
