Need Recommendation on High CCA 6 Volt Battery

My new 6 volt battery puts out only 625 cold cranking amps (CCA). Unfortunately, with the 232 head and high compression pistons, it is not strong enough to consistently start my 7X engine.

Optima offers a 6 volt battery that puts out 800 CCA. I know they are good batteries. Are there other more traditional batteries that put out good CCA's? Thanks!

Here's what I've been using. DEKA #902, 6-volt, 780 CCA. It's a traditional lead-acid battery with all the shortcomings. Lots of people like the Optima, which appears to have a longer life. But, the price on this is less.

SPECS: Group 2; 8.75 high, 10.375 long, 6.875 wide; 30 Month Warranty; 780 cca (940 CA at 32 degrees). Price (May 09) $94.45 incl. tax., ordered through my local auto electric shop.

I have used 8 volt batteries in all my regular stepdown Hudsons for many years and never had a problem. I had one 7X and am building another, and used a 6 volt golf cart battery. It also helps if you get vapor lock. You can use a 12 volt start, 6 volt run battery set up too. It works very well. Most farm impliment places carry the 8 volts. Like Fleet Farm or Tractor supply.
  • Would two Optima's in parallel work?

I know $$$ would be an issue. But just asking from an "technically speaking, it could work" point of view.

My 49 came to me with two 6V Optimas that are now 15 years old. The car is

mostly 12 volt negative ground system though. 6 volts are tapped off the

one battery to provide power for the heater, radio, and I think overdrive.

Everything else is 12 volt. 15 year old Optimas are getting marginal for hot

restarts but haven't let me down yet. Just can't bring myself to pop for the

Mexico built replacements that I've heard such horror stories about...

Two 6V wired in parallel would surely pack plenty of punch for a 6V system

(overkill actually) but I'm not sure a stock generator would be very happy

trying to put a heavy charge to them...
