Tomarrow I plan on going over to the metal shop that has my motor. Will get a few more pictures of the exhaust manifold. Will then post the pictures on this site.0

New pictures of the exhaust manifold and one piston picture.Took some pictures today. Will get them up as soon as I get a little time.0
-
More pictures of the manifold and one of a piston.0

Russell, did you see the earlier pictures of the exhaust coming out of the manifold? I posted them a couple weeks ago. We do plan on using the manifold on the "new" engine. It has a crack that we will have to repair but this should be no major problem.0

Yes, I do remember those. Also, can't wait to see it back together.0 -
so is that exhaust manifold factory cast with both outlets like that or one someone modified by welding the rear outlet flange on?
if its factory I would be interested in buying one for a project car I've been working on....
thanks,

There are no signs of any welds on the manifold. I have no idea where it originated but we do plan to use it on the engine we put back in the car. The rear of the car has already been somewhat altered to accomadate twin exhaust pipes.0

The maniflod has a crack but we will fix it and I do not see any problems using it on the "new" motor. The motor should be back in running order in about two months. The motor shop that is putting it back together has been told to have it in running order before it goes back in the car. I will let you guys know how it sounds.0

I should have taken a second picture of the pin from the top of the piston. My motor man was a little concerned about the engineering of a pin in this location. He thought it would eventually result in a wear mark on the cylinder.0

FYI
I am no expert on splasher motors but Hudson always utilized 'Pinned' Piston's and stationary rings even on the later 'Step Down' Motors sucessfully contrary to other Brand of Cars...0 -
The pinned piston idea was copied from Rolls Royce by Hudson. As Ol Racer posted... this was the NORMAL HUDSON practice.0

Here's a link to someone making split manifolds... looks like they fabricated the second exhaust tube / flange and didn't sacrifice 2 manifolds to make one.

Pinned pistons were used by most (maybe the term "a lot" would be better?) of the high priced cars at one time or another. Most in the 20's and 30's. There is nothing wrong with the technology but with the modern machining we have today it is not a smart way to go. I think that (WAG) Hudson was the last to do it? We are doing a 1917 American LaFrance fire engine (Rolls Royce engine) that has pinned pistons. We just finished a 1937American LaFrance Pumper Truck that has the Rolls Royce engine with twin ignition and the pistons are not pinned?0 -
If you compare my manifold with the manufactured twins there are some differences. Never the less I will give mine a closer inspection when I get to the machine shop again. Thanks, Dave0
