dual carbs

I am putting my dual carbs on my Jet now, (finally!) that tube that goes up to the choke from the exhaust manifold, did you guys say I could drill a hole in the exhaust manifold and use copper tubeing for the other carbs choke? And if i can should I drill all the way through the manifold, or can I just drill a hole and tap it and put in a fitting?? Also, when I took the old intake off, it was cracked pretty bad where it bolts too the exhaust manifold, I hope this dosen't happen too my dual manifold:eek:

You just want heated air in the carb choke, not exhaust. You will have to drill all the way through so that the tube has it's opening below the manifold.. Pinch the tube together at the bottom a small amount to slow down the air flow, but not completely shut. Make sure you make the holes small enough that you don't create an exhaust leak where the tube penetrates the manifold. If you don't want to drill the manifold.An alternative method that doesn't look as neat, but works. Wrap some copper tube around the exhaust manifold several turns, then connect it to the choke. The air will get heated and do the same thing.

Just go to any NAPA store and buy a choke stove kit and save yourself a lot of trouble. I have the correct stainless pipe that goes through the exhaust manifold but it takes a lot of planning. Walt.

Barry, Walt's post reminded me that i used a scrap piece of stainless brake line in the manifold and connected it to a copper line to the carb. the copper will not stand up to the exhaust heat!
