Are you looking for information on a stock changeout or a more modern replacement?
  • 54 wasp...I have another steering box from another wasp....just need to know what the procedure is to remove one and install the other. I guess my main question is will the steering box easily unbolt from the steering column?

    Jim,

If it is a MANUAL box, the shaft is one piece from inside the gear box to where the steering wheel mounts. You need to take the steering column tube off by removing the clamp at the gear box, remove the steering wheel, turn signal assmebly, remove hardware that mounts the column to the dash, and slide the column tube up and out of the way. The inner steering column shaft will now be exposed. Remove the bolts that mount the gear box to the frame, loosen the draglink from the pitman arm and remove the entire assembly including inner steering shaft. I have not done a power unit, so I cannot say if the operation is similar or not.

Just remember, you have to remove the starter to remove the pitman arm, and use the correct puller. Walt.
