Rebuilding rear brakes-question on painting

I am rebuilding the rear brakes on my 54 Special. I was going to paint the outside of the drums for rust prevention. Now I am wondering if painting the drums will interfer with dissipating heat. Any thoughts on this?

Thanks,

Doug

  • Doug, paint your drums. That paint won't make a great deal of difference.
  • Do make sure you use a Hi-Heat paint. Standard paint will burn off pretty quick.

    FYI

Probably wont negatively effect braking because Ive noticed Paint specifically designed for Brake Drums on display in the large Auto Chain Stores recently....
