I am sorry to say I am leaving the forum.
I have a great respect for Ted and the moderators on this forum and what they have accomplished in the last few years. I have checked this forum almost daily for the last four plus years and have enjoyed the information immensely and I hope the contributions I have made were worthwhile to some of the members.
I am just tired of waiting until all the advertisements quit moving before I can open a post or thread. My computer is 5 years old and even though I have high speed internet the graphics have just become too much here. I have no other problem on the other forums I subscribe to, just this one.
Even though I just purchased another non-Hudson project I will not in the near future be selling my Hudson.
I will just spend my time on the Triumph forums until it is on the road. Because of the new purchase I do not plan on spending money for a new computer. I still have my PM notifications if anyone wants to send me a message. the best thing would be to email me at dpledford@gmail.com, the H#$@ spambots.
Because it takes just as long to send a PM, I will leave Michael S a message here if he reads this thread. Michael I may be able to help you with that leather look grain on your '53's interior, send me an email

Sorry to see you go Pat.
Stay in touch, and hopefully make another visit down my way when you can.
You're always welcome at the little red shop o' Hudson.

One thing you could do is update the RAM on your pc, if its 5 years old you should be able to get some in that style for dirt cheap. Usually you can fit 4 memory sticks in a pc and most only come with 2 sticks. A couple of years ago the prices on ram were ridiculous but now they are cheap.
Drop me a PM if you have any questions i would be glad to help.0 -
It's like working on the car, find the problem and fix it , don't send it to the crusher because you did'nt maintain it . That goes for the forum and your computer . My computer isn't old , IT'S ANCIENT , and I have no problems with speed . Sounds like yours is overloaded . Hudson guys being what they are just hang in there a while and likely some good advice on how to fix it is just a short time away . Mine goofs up I call my boy , useing remote assistance he has it hummin like new in just a few minutes . Might try that with someone you trust to take over your computer and work it over . BUD0

I agree with '37Terraplane's comments. You really need to have a PC specialist go thru your computer to get it running properly again. This site is really not that intensive as far as graphics are concerned. The problem lies with your PC, not the site. In normal operation, PC's generate a lot of stuff that gets saved to the hard drive and after a while, it starts to interfere (ie: slow performance) with normal operation. As I understand it, one of the advantage of Apple computers is that they don't generate a bunch of stuff that causes slow running like the Windows system does. If you are having this trouble, it is most likely affecting any program you run by making it sluggish and slow to respond. I know that there are even online services that you can connect with and they will guide you to do the necessary maintainence. Maybe some of the more computer literate members can suggest specific fixes. Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater!0

I am not comp literate, but it sounds to me that your computer is getting full up, and you need to start cleaning and dumpng files. Everytime you click on something it puts a copy of that click/file in the temp file. I would start by cleaning out your email files, then go to disk cleanup. In your email inbox left click on one, then right click on it an it will bring up a screen. scroll down to delete, left click and its gone. Theres a quicker way to do a whole bunch at a time, by clicking on one, hold down the shift bar, scoll down to the very last one on ht e page, left click on it, that will highlight all of them, right click, scroll down to delete, left click and they are all gone. Do that with your inbox, outbox, sent items, deleted items, if any, and that will clean a little bit, but you still have a ways to go. You also need to run a Full scan. Sounds to me like he needs a quick lesson on how to use Windows Explorer. That gets you into Disk Cleanup, which should be used at least twice a week. It's not hard to get into. But I agree with the guys above, find a computer nerd, and get him to coach you through cleaning up, so everything sticks with you, and you can do it yourself. For what you are using your comp for, I feel that it is accurate and will do the job. Didn't it do the job before.?
Your not doing Graphics, a lotta pic, Flight Simulator, those programs take up a lotta memory.
This is from an 80 yr old Dummy.

Before you start deleting files i would suggest you get someone to help you just incase you delete something important.
One think i see, as working for an ISP, is people are buying bigger better PC's along with more bandwidth to their residence. This enables webpages and applications to do so much more. They are more graphically intense and require much more to run smoothly and as people move towards the new equipment they dont have trouble with the things you say you are having.
This site isnt so intense you need a new pc thats not what im saying but you could use a clean up as suggested below and more memory is always a good thing.
Hope this helps if you are still looking at this site.0 -
I agree, it's not the site but your computer that most likely needs some help. Probably no big deal for a computer nerd to fix for you.
Might want to try upgrading like I did, to a TRS-80 from Radio Shack.
Ha! Just kidding. Mine isn't that bad, but close to it.:D0 -
My computer is a Gateway 500S that I bought in Dec 2002!!!! Everything still works fairly well.
I noticed the other day my 80 gig hard-drive was (finally) beginning to run out of space - to many Hudson files!!!! So what I've gone and done was to put everything into catagories; ie, web site files (manuals), or web site files (sales) and so on. Then I COPIED everything to CD's for backup (should do this anyway, at least once a week - ok, ok, like everybody else I got the "tomorrow" virus!!!!
Once if made sure the CD's would work I then deleted the material off my hard drive. It's actually working a lot better at the moment.
Now, before somebody chimes in and asks why didn't I put it all on a couple of DVD's instead of about 6 or 8 CD's for some reason I can't download files from my computer to DVD's. I've got to get a program, like Roxio, and see if that works.
Cleaning out the history file will help - and also the temp files. Go thru your trash bin - if there's nothing there you want to save, dump it (it should automatically dump every so often anyway). If you want to save something in the trash bin, download it to a CD.
Back when I started using computers - with a 4 meg hard drive!!! - I used to work just about all my stuff from 3-1/4 floppies. Would put whatever I was working on on a floppie and work from there. Clumsy, but it worked. With all my Hudson files loaded onto CD's I can work from there if I need the info. Next project is to make copies of the CD's so I don't loose something.
One thing computers don't do (tho they are highly touted to do so) is save work. Just keeping the damn things up and running is work in itself. I came across a Norton program the other day that might be helpful, if you're running Norton security. For something like $80 they can remotely access your computer and find a lot of things they can correct for you. Geek squad can do the same thing - and so can a good reputable computer repair shop. Lot of bucks, but cheaper than running out and spending $700, $800 or more for a new upgraded comptuer.
And on that note - this 8 year old Gateway isn't to far away from what's being offered these days. Hard-drive's smaller, and I only got 1 gig of memory - added another memory chip a while back which helped things considerably.
Keep in mind after reading thru this post - a computer guru I ain't!!! Half the time I don't have a clue as to what the hell I'm doing. If it works, I probably can't tell you what I did to fix it. Tripped over my shoe laces, I guess.
Y'all take care now, hear.

If you want to back up to DVD you will need to ensure your CD(/DVD?) reader/writer is able to burn DVDs as not all older ones can do this. Here in NZ you can buy a modern unit that will burn DVDs for about $50.00. I use a software program called "Nero 6" that was supplied with my CD/DVD burner & have found it the easiest to use of the 3 different programs I've tried.0 -

Dave, the computer is ancient - the DVD/CD player is about 2 years old. I have to get something like Nero is all.

My computer is so old it was designed by MOBY DICK , I've had it about 10 years , a hand-me down from my son . Insight high speed ISP . I'm running Windows XP--Trend security--Firefox browser ---. I activate add blockers where ever it can be done and I get ZERO ADDS when I log in on any site except Ebay, gotta put up with thier crap to use it . I delete recent history useing TOOLS daily and every once in a while do the defragment thing , getting rid of unused stuff . Keep the recycle bin empty at all times , If I wanted something I would not have sent it there . If somebody GAVE me a new computer I'd probably sell it and spend the money where needed , ON THE HUDSONS----BUD0

Greetings SRCraftsman2, my side business is working on PCs, and I am pretty sure that for a little money and some elbow grease, we could get your computer humming. For a fellow Hudson guy, I would be happy to walk you through it for free. The computer I am on now (father in-law's) is pretty ancient but working very nicely. Let me know.0
