They were made by Hudson. Basically an Essex truck. Came in heavy and light pickup model. Would like to find one.

Yes, Eldon Hostetler (in Indiana) has a rare U.S. Mail Truck version of the Dover in his collection of Hudsons.
  • Weren't the Dover's commercial vehicles?

Yes Dover was a commercial vehicle line. many were made up for service for the US Post Office. Good lucky finding one though!!!!!! Etreamly rare! That's why we're called the HET instead of HEDT Club. There's Eldons' didn't know about the one in Christchurch. There is rumored to be one hiden in Chicago behind an old family owned grocery store but I cannot verify this. I have also seen radiator badges in a private collection If you find one you are sitting on a real tresure and would win some admiring fans at a Hudson national convention. LOL.....that might be worth a tresure hunt.

The Dover were based on the 1929 Essex Chassis. The only difference in construction was that they had an extra back cross member, rivetted back-to back, as a support for the rear tray. They had their own special headlamps, radiator shell and badge, and used 1928 dash panels without the pine-cone pattern. A good way to use up left-over stock I suppose!

This gent brought it to the Pigeon Forge meet yesterday. It was beautiful. He said there are about 7 left in the world. Nice screenside pickup. Looked like it belonged to a dog catcher.
  • It's a nice looking truck; Was the body wooden? If so, what kind of wood was it made from? Thanx.....R.V.
  • The Dover at the Pigeon Forge meet is a very nice restored screen side with canvas cover. Body is steel only the floor is wood with steel strips like the later pickups. As many pictures were made of this truck and the many cars there surly some one will post pictures. These HETs are getting better every year.
