New '49 Commodore Super 6 in Spain....
Hello, boys and girls amateur Hudson.
I introduce myself, my name is Jordi Servat I have 23 years and I'm from Spain.
Recently I own what is now a mass of iron .. with some big rust .... take a little time but in this state ....
I am willing to restore it completely, is a car that I love ... but I have very complicated restoration by the little information and few parts to sell for the car ....
The car cost me $ 2,300 (check conversion) I think a little expensive ... but at the moment is the only 1949 Hudson Commodore that exist in Spain.
thing that makes me happiest of my particular classic car! jejeje
I have the very difficult restoration
because I Do not Have the engine or transmission or gearbox.
thing will have to be new .... the inside is empty ... mass of iron is only ....
but I have really wanted to restore-it.
And I know that with your help we can get another '49 Hudson on the road! again!! : D
I am very happy to haver found this forum, and I have to congratulate you for being such a good forum for information and good communication.
PD: I tree to put somme pictures.

TKS for all!
See you soon!
Regards: Jordi Servat from Spain.

I will now do my part in helping to save the Spanish / Euro economy.... Sell it for what you can get (take a loss) and buy a better condition one here in the USA and ship it to Spain. You will save yourself alot of money. No need to thank me, you are welcome!0

I'm afraid I have to agree- that car would be almost impossible to restore, even in US with many available parts. Its just too far gone. The main problem will be the frame- if it doesn't break in half when you try to jack it up, you'd be lucky. The Monobilt (unibody type) frames are very difficult and expensive to repair. You would be far better off to find a better one, either in Europe or US, and be able to enjoy it.0

I admire your courage in wanting to restore this car. However, I have to agree with what others here have said. A restoration is out of the question. Judging from the condition in the photographs, there would not be enough metal left to graft or weld too. 49 4-doors are not that rare here stateside. If you check out eBaymotors.com you should be able to find a nice drivable car that would fit your needs at a very reasonable price. I understand the cost to ship a car your way is not that much. Most likely, less than you paid for this car. Sorry that the advice you are getting is not more positive, but I would say it is good advice.0

Hello, good evening.
I am writing now from the work ....
I understand your advice to perfection .... but I have toyed with many possibilities even bring the U.S. car which is not feasible.
I explain the question ...
Here in Spain because the government .... laws that has put some very, very demanding on the cars of america ... whether classical or modern .... now part of the taxa that have increased have to pay to receive and anything else.
so buy a Hudson-USA and bring it to Spain .. . Transport costs around € 6000 + we have to add the cost of the car. And after all this I have to pay tax of 21% the total cost car and transport , + approval of the car that costs 2,000€ + Historical tuition 1,200€ + 150€ inspection technique
so I'm going to spend more than 10,000€ in just legalize the car in Spain .... that whoever makes this American car that is currently in Spain has a much higher cost than usual in the rest of Europe or USA.
It is unfortunate that the government make these stick .... but can do not do anything.
On the other hand when I bought the car ..... surprise when I arrived at the office of traffic ... this is that the year 1950 until 1963 this car belonged to the state government services, I have everything I've got an album in the capital of photos that shows the car in public acts...
Regarding the engine, I have to say that I have explained badly.
when the car arrived in Spain, passing by the factory Barreiros / Chrysler and this was added a 90HP engine, from Barreiros.
currently retains the motor. but I want to put an American engine to be possible that I had before and an automatic gearbox.
the other question to be so old and broken car ... I've thought of replacing as many parts of the arms Helix complete brand .....
everything new and modern wiring and many more innovations 12Volts without ceasing to be a classic.
I ask the most sincere forgiveness for my writing English, I am using a translator and know it is not very good ......
Thank you so much for your honest answers, and I somehow they are compelling explanations.
I will answer in Brebes with many more new features and answers.
TKS all Hudson's!!!0 -
Hey Servat would like to see those pictures of the car back when it was used by the government.
Thanks0 -
Would it make much difference as far as price if you got a Hudson from the UK or even somewhere else in Europe?0
-
I think the only thing he'd save money on is the transport costs and some of the 21% tax that would be added there. From what he is saying there are a lot of "add-on" charges in Spain to get the car registered.
However the car looks as if it has had an interesting life so I guess Jordi needs to take this into account when deciding if the car is worth saving.
Some photo's would be good ; both of the car as it was and as it is now.
Good luck on whatever you decide to do Jordi!0 -
Here is a message posted to this Forum in 2006, from the owner of a Hudson Jet who also lives in Spain:
http://classiccar.com/index.php?option=com_jfusion&Itemid=62&jfile=showthread.php&t=5195&highlight=Spain%2C+Hudson
Perhaps he knows of other Hudson owners in Spain who might be able to give you information or sell you parts.
I seem to recall another 1948 - 49 Hudson owner in Spain, who had a homepage. But I cannot find his name.0 -
Maybe...
I'd look to drop the body onto a rolling frame - aka. Panty Dropper, aka. HudsonCustom

This would be a viable alternative to a resotoration and a lot less expensive.

!Hola, Jordi!
Dee Kruzan0 -
Hudson's Hello everyone!
Thank you very much for the welcome and advice, I know that their advice is wise ... but I know now that is the only ... and I know for sure that I have consulted all communities traffic records.
51hornetA: pictures are on the way, Lay all scanned images.
Aaron D. IL: I am very convinced that bringing a car from USA to Spain is more expensive to restore ... but this time I think it will be no ....
I have re-consulted on charges gestioria "Extra" to bring a car from USA ... and is a big problem now is more expensive ... from June 20 for Government is going to raise taxes to 18% compared to 16% above .. so becomes more viable restoration.
Jon B: thank you very much for this contribution, I sent an e-mail to the person to request more information, but the moment I could not contact.
Rambos Ride .....
please let me give thank-you, for your page! I congratulate restoration so great that I like and has the energy to take my car forward .... thank you very much for the link!
I'm serious thoughts of making a Custom Car .. preserving the original exterior ... but I have problems in the technical inspection in Spain ... we well see .... I don't know that funcion...
Thank you very much at all and I will read a bit because I have been very busy this time ... I am learning from you all!
Hudson's Thanks0 -

Bye!

English!
Hello, good afternoon, would not desvirutar post in Castilian / English and decided to do-what part .... You are the owner of a Hudson in Spain ¿?
I sometimes think that deveria haver born in USA ... but things are not so .... jejejeje regarding your question ....
He has a point ... many of the pieces I need must come from outside .. but the treatment is different, usually what I'm doing now is to agree with the Seller that the box set is priced at $ 35 and as no amount sobrepassa 50 ... they do not pay taxes ... I currently have plundered neck ... but I brought a lot of large parts for other cars and has always cast well ... continue with the tactic ....
very grateful for your response, and keep in touch! certainly is a forum very very handsome!
Bye!0 -
