Essex Super 6 gearshift positions

Hi,

I have bought a Essex Super 6 Coach build 1928. I like to know the positions of the gearshift to select the different gears. The car ist not yet ready for driving so I can't try it out. I assume that the first gear is in the left upper position and the reverse gear the right lower position. Is this correct?

Best regards,

Hagen

As far as I know, Essex used the standard "H" pattern.

    Left-Up: Reverse

    Left-Down: First

    Right-Up: Second

    Right-Down: Third

Here is an internet link to an operator's manual for the 1927 Essex: http://www.hudsonterraplane.com/tech/1927/1927EssexInstructionBook.pdf

There will be some differences between 1927 and 1928, but I do not believe there is a 1928 manual on line.

No, to date we don't have a 1928 instruction book on-line yet.

If someone would like to loan us one, thank you, we will have it available in short order.

    ANY VOLUNTEERS OUT THERE????

  • Thanks for the information and for the link. Actually I found also a 1928 Essex manual but it does not contain any information of the gearshift positions.

If you need this manual is there any way to upload it to your website?

    Hi Alex

I have the May 1928 Essex Instruction Manual as a pdf. It's 28 pages long & the pdf is 19 meg. Its probably too big to email & I'm not clever enough to send it any other way electronically. Would you like me to burn it to a CD & snailmail it to you?

My 28 Essex Coupes have the pattern you describe.
