I am planning on restoring my 1937 hudson pickup and I want ed to ask some questions. First is it possible to get the "Magic hand" working ? Meaning can I get parts some where some how ? Also is it possible to get the wiring harness or will I need to make my own?Last but not least is it possible to get the Trans redone correctly? Let me know Any help would be great thanks in advance.

The Electric Hand can be rebuilt, but, depending on condition it might just need a good cleaning and a new diaphram from K-Gap. I have one on my 37 sedan, and it work very well. If you are not a member of the HET club, I highly recommend joining. It's you're best place for parts and information. Alex Burr and our club library will have maintenance books and info. for your restoration. I would check with Rhode Island Wiring (riwire.com) or 401-789-1955 for your wiring. They do a great job. Club member Al Saffrahn in Arizona can rebuild your trans. and can also help with the electric hand. 502-568-2911.

Good luck, and keep up posted on your progress. We like pictures!!

Hi---First bit of advice---join the Hudson Club. Then contact Charlie Salvato in New York listed in the club roster. He rebuilt mine in my 37 years ago & works great. Hudson called this"the electric hand". It is an electrically energised vacuum shift & was kind of unique to Hudson & Cord. Good luck with your pick-up restoration. Cliff Minard.

I agree with Splasher1 on the "rebuildability" of the Electric Hand components. When I did mine I was amazed that the items could look so yucky (technical term) outside and be so clean inside. And they were designed to be disassembled and repaired if necessary.
  • THanks for the info... Where do I sign up to join the club? I am ready to get rid of my other cars and just build hudsons . They just stand out so much from the crowd.

Go to http://www.hetclub.org, and click on Membership on the menu bar at the top of the home page. That'll link you to an application form.

I forgot to mention that our award winning bimonthly club magazine is worth joining by it self. You'll enjoy it.

Welcome to the wonderfull world of the Hudson Essex Terraplane Club.

I've been a member for 34 years this August. Great cars and even greater people.

Welcome to the crazy nutty world of Hudson - and that's just the people!!! :D The cars are even more fun to play with. I've been agitating people for 41 years and haven't had a dull time yet. Each day is something to look forward to - each meet you go to will bring even more rewards in meeting the great people of this, what I consider the best car club around, and seeing their cars.

I've started building an on-line library - my gift to the club for the great years. There is a neat little 1935 Electric Hand booklet there - the system didn't change all that much between 1935 and 1937 and it will give you an idea of what it's all about.

You can find it at http://hetclub.org/burr - at the moment it's a list of what I've put on-line, but will be a full web site soon. Scroll down the page to the 1930's and you'll find the 1935 Electric Hand book there.

There is some 1937 material under Manuals at the bottom of the page.

    Y'all have a great day.
